Been creaking along with my 2011 13" Pro, looking to pull the trigger on a replacement. See this new price at Amazon, which is lower than the refurb version at Apple. Is this the trend as we approach Fall release date of the M5?

This is a relatively normal price this far into the year regardless of when M5 will actually find its way into these Macbooks. The only difference is that M4 now has twice the minimum memory so you get a better base model config this time. With M3 you would have gotten only 8 gigs in the same base model.

It might be a while until a 14" Macbook with M5 comes out. Last year the iPad Pro got the new M4 chip first and it took many weeks for the Macbooks to catch up.

I would just buy the 14" M4 base model now. Maybe some retailer will take another 50 bucks off but after over a decade with your old Macbook does it really matter to save every last penny? Does this difference matter for a device you intend to keep for such a long time?

on Amazon, 14" M4 24gb/1 TB is $1700, M4 Pro 24gb/512 GB is $1700. Base model remains at $1300. I think those prices are better than the refurb.

Unless the listings clearly state they are sold by either Amazon or Apple, I'd be wary when the price seems too good to be true. There are some shady marketplace sellers on the site, and you can find numerous examples of people getting ripped off with either the wrong product altogether or clearly fake knockoffs.
