Zap pram and nvram?

I heard about doing these things.. Should I do em on a reg basis? What exactly do they do? I have zapped pram before but not nvram

NVRAM or PMU?

Either way, you can look up on Apples website in the support area. http://www.apple.com/support/

These should only be reset when you have a problem or a hardware upgrade that deals with the particular thing that needs zapping.
