For anyone who plays Zenonia, they put out the third one but in my opinion there is one change that means I won't be buying it...

They pretty much turned it into those kind of games where you have to pay to get the "special items" (such as origin of life or even worse, the examine scrolls. At least with origin of life you can try to play without dieing but you can't use many dropped items if you can't get an examine scroll).

And it isn't even the fact it makes the game more expensive that makes this such a horrid idea. By earning in game money to get items, you are playing the game and doing something fun to get those items, it becomes part of the game and part of hte play. By making it so you pay real money it cheapens the game as it takes out goals and gameplay and the work you do to get the money to get those items is unfun, not part of the game work.

Imho, the whole idea of paying to get special items (particularly items that are essential to the game, not even nice extras) is a horrible idea. I'd object a lot less if either the items were just nice bonus's that made things easier but weren't all that essential or if you could also get the items by doing stuff in game rather than just paying money (apparently that is the only way to get those items is to buy coinage to use in the game. You can't earn that coinage any other way).

Just another sneaky but clever way for Gamevil to make money. I guess unidentified items will be vendored and need to save the game more often then. Although great storyline

Sadly, it seems the way games are going (probably those bitching about how the low prices of games also means that games will get more crappy will have a very strong point in this is probably how many game makers will make their money). Personally I'd pay more for a game that that didn't do this and tend to avoid games entirely (even if they are "free" to install) that do this.

But honestly, I'd argue that while this may be good for the game makers in the short run (cause it seems your average casual player gets suckered into this), it really is not good for gameplay and may be bad for game makers in the long run (as I think people will find games less satisfying after a while. I quickly realized with FB games, the ones that started this model it seems, that you really weren't doing anything and even if I decided to throw money at the games to get the better items, it's not satisfying to get a cool item when all you did was pay for it versus going on a cool quest or even grinding to get the in game points you needed to get that item).

I just don't find it good gameplay to be able to cheat and just buy my way through the game. In a traditional game sure you could find a super awesome item that got you through the game, but usually you had to "work" for it which gave you a sense of satisfaction once you got the item. Paying for it just is a cheat way that tends to lose that sense of satisfaction.

I suppose at least there is still challenge if you pay for the special items but I'd also find it frustrating to have to pay to use the items I find in the game which is how Zenonia is set up (the origins of life I'm not as concerned about, I find it's a little too easy to get in Zenonia and I've made myself try to not have to rely on it or else the game gets way too easy as I earn so much money and they are cheap enough I can just slog through, die and not care that I died. Really the origins of life should be worth much more in game, or at least made to be more expensive as your level goes up). So I consider the examine scrolls as more part of the game play and not extra or even cheats. At least if it was a cheat like item like origins of life one could say just play without it and be very careful (cause if you die and you click one of the options the game autosaves for you so you can't go back to a save game before that point).

Update: Apparently you can earn zen in game with certain stuff too :). So they do make it so you can just earn the stuff in game (I was going by reviews on itunes, but Gamevil responded to their facebook when I complained correcting me).

That makes things a lot better.

Now I can buy it :).

Earn Zen ingame?

I agree with tigress666 that the whole Zen-system wastes the gameplay. I've played the game for a while now, but didn't see any in-game ways of earning Zen. Only by posting your achievements on Facebook? Don't want to bother my friends with that...

It's a waste of such a nice game that they are trying to squeeze even more money out of the fans of the game... :-(

I sincerely hope they will fix this in an update....

Apparently you can earn it also by playing in the arena (at least that's what gamevil's facebook page responded to my complaint with). I agree the facebook one is crappy too as I think there should be an *in game* way of earning game items.

I haven't actually played the game myself, just saw some reviews and some people had mentioned the having to pay to get the scrolls/origins of life/other items and no one had countered with a, "that's not true."

That is just companies. They have to come up with different ways to make money just like any other company. When they get greedy, they'll miss out - simple capitalism :)

Getting Zen

Hey guys, I know this thread is really old but if your iPhone/iTouch is jailbroken, you can use iFile to give yourself as much zen as you need. Hope I helped if your still having trouble with it!
