Zeppelin and 5S, lightning and DAC

I have one of the original 30pin B&W zeppelins. Iwant to use it with my iphone 5S but the more I read the more confused I am. The zeppelin has very good onboard DACs and yet the official adapters have a built in DAC. How do I get a digital signal from my lightning iphone to the zeppelin? Is there a simpler adapter?
