zoom on chrome - 100% CPU & fans at full speed

2019 MBA.

Running zoom within chrome causes 100% CPU utilization with the fans running at full speed for the duration of the call. This is very distracting. Problem starts about 1/2 hour into the call.

Has anyone else experienced this? Do you have a workaround? Is using the zoom app any better?
