Curious about whether you can still switch to zoomed display mode on these phones to have larger icons like you can on the 8/8 Plus and earlier. I saw some old threads from back when the X first came out that seemed to indicate you couldn't, but I wondered if that had come back in subsequent updates.

I believe it's only on the XS Max. X and XS doesn't have this. I had both but the XS didn't give me the option.

Friend here in the office has an XR and apparently it has the option.

Weird that they left it off the X and XS. Even my iPhone 8 has it.

@EugW explained why the X/Xs doesn’t have zoom screen mode:

“The reason the X & XS don't have it is because there is no corresponding smaller resolution to zoom to.

The iPhone 6 can perfectly zoom to iPhone 5 resolution, so there is a zoom option.
The iPhone 6 Plus can perfectly zoom to iPhone 6 resolution, so there is a zoom option.
The iPhone XR can perfectly zoom to iPhone X/XS resolution, so there is a zoom option.
The iPhone XS can perfectly zoom to iPhone X/XS resolution, so there is a zoom option.

The iPhone 5 cannot perfectly zoom to iPhone 4s resolution, so there is no zoom option.
The iPhone X/XS cannot perfectly zoom to iPhone 8 or 8 Plus resolution, so there is no zoom option.”

I see. Well, that kinda sucks.

I used display zoom on my 6s for awhile until I realized the one hand keyboard doesn’t work unless the you disable it. After leaving it off for a bit I got used to the normal display and now on my X I don’t miss it at all. I know it’s a popular feature and some find it hard to use a phone that doesn’t have it.

Can’t they just write into iOS a lower resolution for the iPhone X/XS so they can zoom? Perhaps a developer or knowledgeable person can explain? Thanks

I'd love to get used to it. But may 48 year old eyes have other ideas.

I ended up going with an iPhone 8 Plus for now. It was the more practical choice money wise.

I just noticed today that my X now has the Display Zoom setting and it works perfectly. When did this get added?!?!

I was running iOS 14 when I noticed it today and it’s still there after updating to 14.0.1

Edit: The iPhone User Guide was not updated to reflect this, so fingers crossed it sticks around. My aging eyes really need the feature but I don’t want to upgrade until 2021.
