Simple yes or no question. If you feel like it, do chime in if you think it is worth it or not and discuss any pros and cons of Apple Care.

I usually don't get Apple Care for my products, to be honest...my Blackbook survived ~5 years without the need for AppleCare. One of the reasons why I often opt not to take the AppleCare is because I'm not afraid to take my computer apart and buy the parts I need to repair it myself. Most of the times, the combination of the availability of cheap parts and chance that I'll break the computer made me less inclined to buy AC for myself.

That said, I plan on getting one for my MBA. I read through a number of forum posts and blogs/articles about these unibody models and how 'difficult' it can be to get it repaired DIY style. Most of the people seem to agree that in the end, the potential high repair costs of these unibody laptops will offset the price of AppleCare. I'm waiting for my trade-in with Amazon to clear so I could grab a copy of AC for myself :)

Where is the cheapest place you can buy AppleCare? $249 + taxes on the Apple site for the AppleCare seems like just a bit too steep.

There were a few threads about this recently actually. What I got out of it was that Amazon has a decent enough deal for Apple Care.

While eBay has some nice deals for Apple Care, there are a lot of sketchy sellers out there. The folks advised people to look at the feedback and make sure the seller's reputable before making the purchase.

But again, you could always look around to search for the best price, but as with most/all Apple products, I don't think the price fluctuates as much.

As to whether AppleCare is worth it or not, that's a matter of opinion. You'll find lots of opinions on both sides, with roughly 75% saying it's worth it. You really need to decide if it's worth it to you.

Has Applecare.....It's a no brainer really. So many threads here and tales of woe when the one year runs out.

It's worth it.

Yes, I do. Applecare gives peace of mind for three years and makes it easier to sell the computer when you wish to do so. Repairs to Apple products are pretty costly, Moreover, Apple has the reputation of honouring its guarantees, as I found some years earlier when two different iPods (the old 30GB classic) died while still under warranty and were promptly replaced without seeking refuge in excuses or small-print. In fact, that was one of the main reasons I switched to Apple computers.

Before I bought my MBA, I had a MBP, and I had Applecare on that, too. (And had cause to use it as the HDD died while still under Applecare's warranty).

Granted, there are many threads on this topic, but it is one that seems to exercise a lot of anxiety and generate much emotion. You may never need it, but it is very useful to have if something goes wrong.

Cheers

I purchased a Mac mini server 4 months ago. It was the 6th mac that I have purchased, all without Apple Care, never thought it was worth it. I tend to upgrade as soon as a new model comes out.

I bought the server to set up a home network. I had no idea how to set one up so I have been reading up on servers and playing with it these past few months. I had things "kind of working" fine, but wasn't sure if it was really "right". I started to have a problem with it the other day and couldn't figure it out, I was sure it was some setting that I had changed...

I decided I needed help, so yesterday morning I called Apple and took out Apple Care on it ($162.04) and then was immediately transferred to a Mac mini server specialist. 2 hours and 5 minutes later, over the phone, we had it running perfect. We (he) basically had me remove everything and rebuild it, changed all the settings from my Time Capsule to my server and as we reset things he would explain why, etc. I still have to redo some settings using dyndns but he suggested that I talk to an "enterprise" guy at Apple for that. I figured 2 hours was enough for one day, that will wait for next weekend.

What would it have cost me to hire someone to do this for me? Probably more than what I paid for the Apple Care, and I can still get help (for the next 2 1/2 yrs.) without paying any more. And I learned a lot in the process.

So, Apple Care isn't just for the hardware, it covers a lot more than that.

I don't bother with it because I sell and upgrade every year, so Apple care has no real value to me, each to their own though, some people like to have the same Mac/PC for years and years
