Maybe it should have been called "Let's sleep in."

Let's see, a taller Nano and some extra menu options in some software. Sleeping in 'till noon would have been more productive. Will anyone ever bother to watch one of these again?

looks like the video isn't ready yet... this is just a placeholder.. clicking on the link to watch the video brings up Quicktime but it disconnects.

go to this page (http://www.apple.com/itunes/), you will see on the left side under "News" that the video is coming soon.

Only thing that excited me was the price drop on the iPod Touch. Just ordered a 16GB model from Apple. The Genius thing? I would have far more appreciated tabbed libraries than assumptions of what I want to hear.

The reason Jobs is seeming a little lacklustre is because today was yet ANOTHER disappointing Keynote and product rehash sorry launch. The iPhone is a very crude smartphone with a flash UI - but still sports a poor camera, terrible battery life, rubbish navigation and against something like the new Nokia N96 is a joke. The new iPods - so what? There's nothing really exciting here. iTunes? Same old same old.

What would really get me going would be:

New aluminium MacBook with backlit keyboard, BluRay DVD, 6GB Ram, 7200rpm 300gb HD blah de blah.

Gawd. Apple COME ON!!!!

The reason Jobs is seeming a little lacklustre is because today was yet ANOTHER disappointing Keynote and product rehash sorry launch.

Steve bobbed his head ever so slightly to the last song played. His subdued presentation is a ploy to make us long for some of the other orators with whom he shared the stage at recent events.

I can see potential Shake-to-Shuffle issues. How do tracks remain constant while jogging?

Oh really? You sound like one of those full of ***** politicians. Do you have any basis on what you just stated here? Lowest battery life? Do you care to prove it. Last I checked, the 3G outlasted just about every other 3G phone. Very crude? What does that mean? Does that mean it's a beautiful device that's innovative and has the best internet experience out there? Perhaps you got your words mixed up. I could give a crap about the camera. If you didn't know any better, a camera on ANY phone sucks. It's just not possible to fit good optics in a phone and high megapixels are a joke in a camera phone. It's all about the optics and not megapixels! If camera phones were so good, real digital cameras would be obsolete.

Let me guess, you want all this for $399? By the way what do you do that you need 6GB of RAM? Vista possibly? OS X sure doesnt need 6GB to run smoothly. I can assure you no normal user would even come close to using 6GB. 4GB is even debatable for many of us. 2GB runs wonderfully!

I think you'll just be happier buying your Nokia and Windows box with 6GB of RAM. You sound like a specs kind of guy. Let us know how it works out with your crappy products with good specs.

Well said, that man. Couldn't agree more.

You find Apple boring these days. Go watch a Dell or Microsoft event. Oh, wait...

And someone show me actual proof where Apple said this was going to be a life-altering, mind-blowing, CERN-upstaging event.

Someone on the Internet () said someone from Apple said to someone in the media that something BIG was coming.

Officially Apple said 'Let's Rock', put up a huge banner of someone listening to an iPod and at the traditional time for iPod/iTunes updates released... wait for it... some iPod/iTunes updates.

Sometimes on here it reminds me of that old bat from the Fawlty Towers episode.

"That is Torquay, madam."
"Well it's not good enough."
"Well can I ask what you expected to see from a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House perhaps? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of Wildebeest sweeping majestically..."

I remember other Applw events, where half the posts weren't saying "that sucked we wanted more."

Wait... there has NEVER been an event where half the posts didn't say that :p Not even the iPhone unveiling, which was like a forum dreamer's wild fantasy rendering come true :p

It's only natural. Events like these bring out trolls who are nervous about their choice of a Nokia or Vista or whatever they are insecure about, and Apple fans who want the stuff that's actually coming at some OTHER event. And me, who wants 2.1 NOW and not Friday  :)

And then we have rumor sites (which I greatly enjoy) spilling the news so that nothing is new, and we have the rumors that were NEVER true (like Apple telling the press this is bigger than ever). Of course, nobody has to read rumor sites, but it seems to be those who do who complain the loudest about a lack of surprises :p

Saw the keynote. Had mixed feelings. I do like the idea of genius and I wonder how it will work since my content was mostly typed in and also some not ripped from original CD's.

would like the idea if it plays the full song and not a 30 sec clip. After all, having more music to listen to at my finger tips than what is loaded on my ipod is pretty cool.

So how does the nano genius playlist work..... I mean it does not have an internet connection (wifi), what does it do wait until you re-sync

I think the new games are pretty cool. Kinda combines the wii and PSP. Maybe something i would use.

ok, maybe it is time to upgrade from my 2004 antique model.....

I'm not posting this to start a rumor or to be wishing for bad news or anything, but did anyone else notice how thin and frail Steve Jobs looked? I'd previously read something about his "beliefs" forcing him to avoid surgery or the recommended cancer treatment and I sure hope that's not true. However, his appearance today certainly made me wonder about his health despite his jokes to the contrary. I hope I'm wrong. :(

OK.....for a moment I was also underwhelmed by the event.
My disappointment was exaggerated because of the many leaks before hand. And we did not get a "one last thing".

But then I went to the on-line store and really looked at the new stuff.
Boy this s#*% is way cool.

The new Nano simply rocks.
Come on guys who of you don't want one?
Shape wise it's now a Nano again. Yipee!
The screen is downright droolworthy.
The thinness is beyond belief and the accelerometer is a true slice of Apple brilliance.

The iTouch is equally amazing.
Look at it. Look what it does. What's to bitch about?

I admit to having had little time to check out iTunes 8, but just the availability of HiDef content is enough of a reason to make me smile.

So just for fun, take a moment to see as a child and look beyond your personal wish lists and preferences. You will see the products for the true wonders that they really are.

I am no fan boy and I have berated Apple so much lately for lots of reasons.
I still am re computers.
So I for one am really happy to feel this positive about them again.

Now which darn color am I gonna have ;)

I was gonna respond, but you summed it up nicely. Jbee got owned.

3 things:
[1] Snow Leopard — OpenCL + Grand Central + QuickTime X.
Quicktime X will underpin updates to iLife, the Pro Applications. OpenCL and Grand Central will combine to get better performance on identical hardware using Mac OS X than other Operating Systems.
[2] Further Development of Multi touch
And use in new form factors, such as tablets.
[3] PA Semi and custom chips for future iPod and Macs
And the interesting possibilities this will bring.

I think there is a lot to be excited about and that is only based on the stuff we know about. Apple is in a pretty good place at the moment and Steve stays there for a while yet.

I think Apple has plenty in the oven cooking, but nothing tastes great if it comes out too early.

Hardware yes. Software no. Not unless they release an update which gives you genius playlists and the new voice recording stuff.

Does anybody know the music from the iPod touch update? Sounds like Pink, but then, Apple don't use known people often (like Chairlift's Do You Inspire You for the nano ad).

Oh really...if camera phones were so good, real digital cameras would be obsolete.

You like the iPhone. Great. Nothing wrong with that. Not everyone likes the iPhone, though, and that's okay as well. Your comments about how utterly, and unquestionably, fantastic the iPhone is are not echoed by everyone. I can't wait to get rid of mine.

By the way what do you do that you need 6GB of RAM? Vista possibly? OS X sure doesnt need 6GB to run smoothly. I can assure you no normal user would even come close to using 6GB. 4GB is even debatable for many of us. 2GB runs wonderfully!

You really need to start thinking outside your box more. You don't define what "normal" people need, as I can assure you, you don't know everyone to be able to make that kind of comment.

I use that much memory and more in my Mac Pro. I wish I could push my MacBook Pro beyond 4 GB. You might not understand why, or think that I need to, but I do. Maybe I should turn the tables and suggest that you have some sort of personal issue with having only 2 GB of memory in your machine. What's good for the goose and all...

I too am concerned about how Jobs looked and acted. His "rumors of my death" bit was funny, so apparently he has no intentions of stepping down.

But I was puzzled by the keynote. The new Nanos are nice, but nothing earth-shaking. The new Touch is nice, but nothing too different. I'm wondering why the press was supposedly told by Apple that this keynote was going to be a "big deal" and that they'd better be there. It's almost as if Apple was crying wolf.

I'm really excited about the projects Apple might have on the horizon -- those would truly be a "big deal." But iPod rehabs don't IMO qualify as that. Neither does "Genius," which seems to be Pandora for the iTunes store.

A friend suggested that perhaps there really was a "big deal" planned, but for some reason its announcement got scrapped at the last minute. It just feels like a bit of a letdown because my expectations were so high. I might have to avoid MacRumors before these events so I don't get my hopes up. :)

the interesting thing is that people suggest other apple products could see changes before Christmas as well, new processors or something for Mac Pros, new Displays, no Mac Minis at all, new processors for the MBA

all of these people are complaining not because of the lack of content revealed but the type of content. most people into apple products that are on these forums are the type of people that all have the latest mac, some with desktops and laptops, and a majority of people on here have iphones so a press release about ipods has no concern to them because they dont care about the low end products (ie nanos and touches...yeah the touch is a high end ipod but its not very marketable to iphone owners). so really people just want to see high end stuff. myself, i love the look of the new nano (not going to get one...again an iphone owner) and i love the features in itunes 8 so i have nothing to complain about. i do have to say this is one of the few keynotes i didnt really watch.

Because it will be in a "locked" mode while jogging, just like the touch has a lock mode when idle, or most mobile phones do, especially candy bar style so keys don't get depressed accidentally. so in this case, if jogging it wont accept a shake command.

Had to laugh at the section on car manufacturers putting ipod kits in, seeing as they have just dropped the 12 volt supply feed pins on the iPhone 3G so that my built in Volkswagen kit does not charge my iphone 3G forcing me to keep that old iPod photo for a little bit longer.

I doubt some of the car market will be prepared to change the kits just to fit in with the whims of Apple.

Let's see, a taller Nano and some extra menu options in some software. Sleeping in 'till noon would have been more productive. Will anyone ever bother to watch one of these again?

Exactly.

This was a non-event. Who else calls everybody in and has the CEO come out to announce minor hardware and software upgrades to a handful of music players?

But on the other hand, they did change the colors of the iPod shuffle.

It tried out the "Genius" sidebar in iTunes...at the moment, I'm not impressed. I don't think it came up with a single suggestion that I wasn't aware of, or hadn't heard enough times, including some awfully moldy suggestions from the 70s and 80s! Not that there's anything wrong with Jackson Brown and old Elton John, but I don't need a special application to clue me in.

For the moment, Pandora is a better engine for expanding one's musical horizons. As more people participate in "Genius," I hope it improves!

Apple will next introduce shake shuffle to the Iphone. That way, when you get pissed at your phone for dropping another call and you go to throw it, the sudden jarring motion of you pulling your arm back to toss it will cause the phone to lite up and make music distracting you... soothing and calming the angry beast as the saying goes.

DUMB Question: What song is being played at the very end of the Keynote?

What is the song started playing just at the end of the keynote video? :)

That would be Layla by Eric Clapton. Great live performance here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2sfelvHAlU

On topic

Not the greatest apple event I've seen but a solid update of products none the less. People being disappointed that no new macs were announced should've just looked at the name of the event and figure out it's about iPods and iTunes. Just wait the new macs will be coming out soon enough...

I had a few folks say to me yesterday, or today when they saw him on the news: "Steve's looking like death warmed over" or "Gosh he's lost the weight." It is clear that he's not looking good, this isn't just thin, he's really looking not that great. Let's all hope that he has a swift recovery and this cancer is not going to get him for good.

Look at the pics above and you will see what we are talking about.

Edit: I am going to be known as a spreader of a horrible rumor for this, I am just sharing some caps from the keynote yesterday.

Exactly.

This was a non-event. Who else calls everybody in and has the CEO come out to announce minor hardware and software upgrades to a handful of music players?

But on the other hand, they did change the colors of the iPod shuffle.

It's the most hype I've seen since being a community organizer was touted as a qualification for being president.

How about a mayor of a town in the sticks with a population of less then 10,000....Republican blah! Just another hater.

As more people participate in "Genius," I hope it improves!

keep in mind nothing in life will work the way you want it to.

also its new give them a break..

and if you listen to music all the time then why do you need to have the genius bar on? if you susposly "know all songs"

ARG! iTunes is making me angry. A whole lot of my songs are supposedly "missing' and iTunes asks me "do you want to locate it?".... So I clicked yes, and it was in the EXACT folder iTunes would automatically put it. For instance.

Let's say there is a song called Bob by Bobby in the album Boberto. It would be located in:

C:\Users\mynamehere\iTunes\Library\Bob\Boberto\Bobby.mp3

But the song is "missing" according to iTunes. Apparently, the actual file, was in that folder! With that name!

UGH! Sorry... It's just. UGH!

Edit:
erm... this is the wrong thread isn't it. hahaha

Tried unchecking it. Still. Oh well. I just manually re"found" all of them. Fun. Now I'm liking iTunes! Almost. I haven't actually been a music fan, or listened to a lot of music for a while now, mainly because I don't have access to new music. Also, my iTunes library is a disaster.
