It looks nice but if that's the screen size then I'll keep my iPhone 4
for awhile longer. So many of the mock ups look better than that one
does and for Apple to take this much extra time between releases it
should look a little better IMO.

this much extra time? hasn't apple released all the other iphones, with the exception of the verizon iphone, in july? if the next iphone is due in september, then it's really only an extra 60 (and change) days! i'm not saying that apple couldn't or won't release a redesigned iphone, but come on! it's not like it's 6 months overdue. it could be very likely that the extra time is going towards a simultaneous icloud, ios5 release. not to mention a single cdma/gsm iphone. quit thinking it's the end of the world because it's 2 months overdue, and that there needs to be a redesigned phone

Yeah, a number of things here are leaving me skeptical:

1) If the image was originally mirrored, that suggests an iSight camera of some description. If that's the case, then why take a photo when taking a video is just as easy?

2) The aforementioned pixellation disparity really smacks of a photoshop job

3) Also as has been previously mentioned, the screen looks to be taking up less space on the phone the my iPhone4. So either the screen has shrunk or the phone has gotten larger. Why?

4) That is the weirdest way ever to hold a phone, and the only decent reason I can think of is that it's much easier to photoshop something that is not occluded by things like fingers gripping it. Also adding a shadow to a flattened hand would be much easier to do than to add realistic shadows to one with creases and folds in it, as would be found on a hand that was gripping something.

If this turns out to be real I'll be very surprised, and somewhat disappointed.

It looks like it has screen protector. There's no reason for that on a testing device.

Never once said it was the end of the world! Not sure where that came from....
Honestly probably not gonna update unless it's a major overhaul anyway. And I'm pretty sure everyone is waiting for a redesign!

^^^ This
I believe it to be a "squished" iPhone 4

It looks just like my iPhone 4 with a clear eBay bumper on it.

Looking at it again, the perspective appears to be off. It seems like the phone is narrower at the top (earpiece end) than it is at the base (microphone end), which could possibly be explained by some less-than-accurate free transform operations in Photoshop.

Probably the best points I've seen against it so far. Let me try and play devil's advocate here.

1) The green light on the iSight would be on if they were recording a video, no? So other people in the room would know they were illegally recording an unreleased phone. A photo would not, however. (I could be wrong on that, but it seems relatively logical)

2) As I've mentioned before, assuming it WAS fake, why would someone with the technical ability to make a fairly convincing fake iPhone mockup not know better than to pick a pair of hands that was pixelated to hell? It doesn't really add up.

3) It looks about the same to me, but there have been rumors all year of a "mid-range" iPhone coming out (possibly even 2 iPhones coming out), so this could possibly be the iPhone4S (cheaper, mid-range version), while the iPhone5 would be a different beast altogether. Either way, I've heard plenty of rumors of a smaller iPhone.

4) Holding the phone that way gives the best possible view of the side, the bezel and front, etc. Also, assuming my point #1 was true, holding it in a "check out this phone" pose would also be a tip off that they were illegally photographing it. Holding it in this weird pose just makes it look like they're feeling out the weight or something, so they'd remain inconspicuous.

Dunno, it's possible, albeit unlikely.

Again, devil's advocate here, but we've been hearing rumors all year about a "teardrop" design for the newer iPhone(s). This would be pretty much exactly that.

I'm sorry, that just isn't even close to a "fairly convincing" mock-up. It's a joke, and the people perpetrating the joke are laughing their butts off right about now.

Fair enough blyan, I take your points on board. However, it seems that they are deliberately holding a piece of paper directly behind the phone, placing the phone between the computer and the paper. Surely that's going to a) obscure the light on the iSight camera from any onlookers, and b) draw a lot more suspicion in and of itself to anybody in the immeditate vicinity (what are those guys doing hiding that iPhone 5 sample behind a piece of paper and in front of a computer?)

So I would surmise from this - either they weren't too worried about drawing attention to themselves, or the iSight camera light was obscured from view and therefore they could have easily snagged a video instead of one strange photo.

That's how I see it, anyway.

All Things Considered...

As I'm reading these comments, quite a few things stand out to me now.

1. Obvious pixelation. Last-generation iSight cameras are low quality, but they aren't THAT low quality unless the object is in serious motion, I would assume.

2. Awkward holding of the phone; it is much easier to add a drop shadow in that position than to account for curvature of the palm. Also: because this is so close the Mac's screen, that shadow shouldn't be so intense under the phone, above the knuckle of the pinky finger.

3. That finger is horribly stretched and smudged. There's no definition whatsoever of the crease in the skin where the finger would bend.

4. The speaker at the top of the phone is way too wide, top-to-bottom. Looking at the 3GS or the 4, the opening isn't that thick; obvious stretching.

5. What should be parallel lines running along the bottom of the ear speaker and the top of the screen aren't parallel at all, leading me to believe this was an extreme transformation.

Some rumors claim iPhone5 is larger, so that part shouldn't be a surprise.

It should be when most of the space seems to be added to the top of the phone above the screen, which is just about the least necessary place for extra space on the whole device. At least if it were added to the bottom it could be justified by having an extended, gesture-based Home button area, or if it was added to the screen that would obviously make sense. Where on earth is the sense in adding more dead space around the earpiece? The hole around the earpiece has undoubtedly undergone a degree of stretching, and the perspective at that end of the phone is also off.

The bezel above the screen looks a tad big, the speaker grill/ff camera looks unusual, and there are no volume rockers?

If its real, it's not bad.

Besides the obvious, why does the phone have a screen protector on it if it was just taken out for two minutes to be shown.

Also any carrier that wants to continue selling the iPhone will nit be taking it out and showing anyone. ;)

In addition to there being no reason to have a screen protector on a test device, where would they have gotten a screen protector to fit the new form factor already? Doesn't add up.

Hey look! I have pictures of the iphone 5 too! Except not... This is very clearly just an extremely simple photoshop of the iphone 4. Here is my literally 30 second photoshop job of my iPhone 4. I just cut out part of the side. It is a fake. Just a photoshopped iPhone 4

And with that, i believe we can call this bogus.

Also, isn't the silent/vibe switch supposed to be on the opposite side as the volume rockers for the iPhone 5? Definitely fake.
