I have always restored from the backup, and never had trouble, and my iPhone 6 will get the same restoration on Friday.

I'm running iOS 8 on my i5 right now, and if I scrolled up far enough, I'd see text messages from 2008, when I switched from the Palm Treo to the iPhone 3G. Back when we were lamenting the lack of MMS.

Just download the my contacts app. It backs up your contacts then emails it to you. Just click on it in your email and it will download all of your contacts to your phone.

Why would you do that when you can just use iCloud and let the iPhone do its thing?

This is what I'm wondering or, like someone else mentioned, wouldn't it sync your progress via game center or no?

Most games that use Game Center, sync through it as well. I stopped using iTunes to manage my app a long time ago. The App Store and its purchased section is all I need.

If my apps are on my iTunes and I set up as new and install the apps from iTunes. Does any data from apps carry over?

Only if you restore from an iTunes backup, or if those apps use iCloud (or another sync service) to keep your data.

So if set up as new - one would lose Navion destinations, etc. Gosh IDK what to do. I feel I need to start new this time

I restore from backup. I'm constantly doing a little "spring cleaning" anyway. Always looking for that perfect setup of apps and settings.

I'm going to start fresh this time. I restored my last IPhone from backup and it was super easy and fast, but my large "other" file moved over as well and robbed me of some space.

Even though I am getting a 128gb 6, I think this time I'll start out fresh even if it is a bit of work.

If I restore as new how do I get my apps back? I don't care about the data, I just want the apps.

Restore From Backup or Clean Install?

With every new iPhone I always just do the restore from iCloud Backup. This year with the iPhone 6 I was thinking about just starting fresh with a clean install. Is there really any benefit of doing this or should I just restore as usual?

I would like to know the same thing! I have actually already restored from backup but I could erase and set up as a new phone. So far it's performing great!

I started by restoring from backup and ended up with a 20gb "other" data tumor. Couldn't figure out what it was or how to get rid of it so started over fresh and it went away.

I have restored from backup since 2008, and never had a problem. I did the same tonight, with the same results. :)

I like having all my settings, and more importantly, text and iMessages!

I set up my iPhone 6 at the store and did "set up as new phone" on the advice of the sales rep. That may have been a mistake.

None of my apps installed on the new phone although my contacts, notes, movies, etc. DID!

What settings can I go back into just to restore my apps in the same physical layout as on my previous 5s running IOS 7?

I assume you have a backup of your 5s. Plug new phone into iTunes, restore that backup onto the 6.

Never connected the 5S to iTunes, always backed up to iCloud without issues and just backed up 2 days ago to iTunes. I have a very fast Internet connection so backup takes very little time.

How to restore just the apps in IOS 8 on the new iPhone 6?
