obviously MBP will get it before MB, but I said MP (Mac Pro). The Mac Pro will get it first.

Apple isnt going to choose one. They're going to offer both options because all of the video pros who use macs need to be able to deliver in whichever format they chose.

And if you get a slim internal combo it's going to be slow as **** when they finally make them.. external will always end up being faster. even look at dvd-r drives now.

you're right you meant MP not MB:rolleyes:.But i think when MP(mackpro) get's it the MBP gets it and vica versa.Since they both pro.
it make no sense to offer both option* .
But in the other hand Apple offer windows via boot.
But it would be expensiv of apple to ofer both and i think blueray is defintly bether and if a video pro want hd he could just buy a toshiba laptop.

Not that really sony needs the apple decision to do so(just blueray) but i think it's for the best..the current blueray has bether option for a videopro.since it's disc has higher storage capasity.
In the other hand hd and blueray are very like.and with 3layer coming from hd the storeage would be equal(50 gb vs 50 gb).

externals are faster. But i like it to be in one package.
My dime...:)

"Due to greater total disc capacity, the Blu-ray Disc producers may choose in the future to utilize a higher maximum video bit rate, as well as potentially higher average bit rates" (logic sense)..

http://www.youchoose.net/campaign/bluray_vs_hd_dvd
Note:acording to this hd players are more cheaper then blueray players....

what do you guys think the price point of a new 2.8 MBP will be? assuming it comes out in January...

hmm..i have the same question..i guess it would be less then 4000$..but it really depends on what it's "packed" with(graphics,led(?),blueray(?),discs)..hmm.. makes you wonder..

In regards to the possibly display updates, I would definitely love to see Apple step up their 15" display offerings with a hi-def option. However, from the recent announcements from Samsung and LG (two major suppliers for Apple's displays), it seems as though the only upgrade we'll be seeing is the use of pure white LED's, and LED lighting technology in their 17" 1920x1200 displays. That being said, I went ahead and bought my first Mac computer, a Macbook Pro, last week:

2.4 Ghz
200 gb 7200rpm Hard drive
15" matte display.

I thought waiting for the next Macbook Pro update was painstaking, but the 2-3 week delay for the BTO Hard drive option has got me tossing and turning at night!

Yeah I don't think we will see an 8800 anytime soon but I could definitely see an 8700m gt in 256 and 512mb combos, also I would like to see them move to the macbook style keyboard with backlighting, also an optical drive that plays either hd-dvd or blu-ray would be nice.

You know, despite all the talk about specs and the internals of the macbook pros, I find that thing I actually want most is a new macbook/imac style keyboard. preferably still keeping the backlights.

what do you guys think the chances are of a january [slight] redesign?

Apple, Professionals, and Hollywood will use whatever the porno industry uses its already been proven that way for the past 30 years....

That doesn't mean **** now.

1. THE INTERNET IS FOR PORN.
2. THE INTERNET IS FOR PORN.
3. Porn is on both Blu-ray and HD-DVD but nobody buys it because of rules #1 and #2.

Thats the MBP of your dreams...not setting the bar very high :p

I want to see:

2.8GHZ
4GB DDR3 ram
Blu-Ray
15.4" LED 1680 x 1050
180 gb 7200rpm HD

Thats what Id like to see, though I could dream up more, I dont want to be unrealistic.

I think he was setting the bar "low" because his specs are realistic. We won't be seeing 2.8GHz until later in 2008, and that's probably only if they release a non-"Extreme" model. Apple has shown no interest in putting the Extreme models into laptops. Blu-ray isn't likely as long as the drives remain ridiculously expensive, and in any event they'll go in the Mac Pros first. 4GB of RAM is a given since we already have it in the current, and Apple has already beat your 180gb 7200RPM HDD with a 200GB at the same speed.

I do dearly hope for the 1680x1050 option on the 15", though.. can anyone think of why they wouldn't offer such an option? (seriously)

There were 2 announcements by Samsung and LG recently. The new 15.4" (still the same 1440x900 resolution) Samsung displays will be utilizing new white LED's, and LG mentioned LED backlit 17" notebook LCD panels in a recent press release

http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/17/samsungs-white-led-backlit-display-for-2008-10k-1-contrast-for/
http://www.lgphilips-lcd.com/homeCo..._e.jsp?BOARD_IDX=1368&languageSec=E&kinds=IN1

Hmph. Well they didn't say they weren't coming out with higher-res 15" panels.. LG's announcement didn't even address that size, and the Samsung thing didn't mention the 17"s. Plus, other manufacturers have had 15.4" LCDs at even higher resolutions for some time now..

I heard from a friend (his dad is Phil Schiller) that the new MBP is going to have a built in toaster oven so it can make me pizza and chicken parmigiana.

Intel Roadmap Read it.

Also, look at power usage and heat issues before saying random specs. If you shove a quad core 3.2ghz proc + 4gb ram + 500gb 7200rpm 2.5" hdd (has WD/Seagate even announced something like that?!) + Blu-ray/HD-DVD combo drive into a laptop the size of the mbp, you will:
A. Have huge heat issues. People already complain about the current mbp's getting hot.
B. Have a battery life of 2 hours at most. Less if you use the computer beyond just Safari.

If you want to replace your desktop, get a Mac Pro or iMac. A portable computer shouldn't be used as a desktop replacement. They will never be as fast or cheap as a top of the line desktop can be so there's no use in complaining about that.

I am going to throw in my 10 cents:

-2.4-2.6 ghz Penryn Dual Core
-2 Gig RAM (4 Gig Max)
-160 gig 7200 RPM (200 7200rpm Option and 250 gig 5400 rpm option)
-Geforce 8600(possibly 8700) GT 256 MB (512 mb option)
-Screen Options (Same as Current but 15.4 upgraded to the new "White-LED" screen)
-Case Redesign featuring Magnetic Latch system and macbook style keyboard to creat consistency in the product line (possibly black anodized option on top of the line 15.4 and 17 inch models)

Thats all I have. Hopefully this will mean it stays at current price points.

The price points should stay the same - they will certainly not go up! These price points have been consistent since the PB days on the 15", I think....

IF/WHEN there is a case design, I surely hope for the user replaceable hard drive feature akin to the MacBooks.

I would like to see an option for the 1620x1050 hires 15" panel option.

I'm not crazy about that mock-up from the OP with the black around the screen - it looks to HP or Samsung-ish for my tastes. What what else could Apple do to be unique?

It would be cool for Apple to include the 320GB hard drive options for CTO, but if its user replaceable, is there really a point in doing so...

MacBook Pro 2008? Toshiba R500 PLEASE

Any business people who really use their laptops on airplanes out there? Bigger is not better, yet Apple has resigned many users to deciding on mediocre consumer MacBooks or lugging around large and heavy MacBook Pro's. I'm still using my 12" PB G4 because Apple still hasn't come out with a replacement.

Anyone look at the Toshiba R-500? (http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3769) OMG!, if I could have that with an Apple logo, I could just die and go to heaven. The display is even transreflective so it can be used in direct sunlight. Imagine running Navtec GPS software on the flying bridge of your yacht, or really opening your laptop on a picnic table in full daylight and doing some real work with extended battery life, since the backlight can be turned off in reflective mode. Toshiba has leapfrogged Apple in this Market segment. They are even offering it with the option of using the ultralightweight and durable flash based hard drive. Let's get Apple back in the game. Don't give me a 32" MacBook Pro. Give me 2.5 pounds of 12" pleasure.

Tell your friend he's an idiot. If he read the Intel roadmap, he would clearly see that support for toaster ovens comes in Q3 08, more than one update away for the MBP...unless Apple is switching to AMD!
