That ecosystem that you enjoy with the current iPhone would in no way be impacted by the introduction of a slightly larger model that coexists. You are whining about a product you don't even want and won't impact you.

Oh yes it does. If Apple EOL decent sized phones that means I'll have to one day upgrade to a phone size I do not want if I want to stay with Apple. Or stick with my iPhone 1. The other option is look for a decent sized good Android phone but those are pretty hard to find. And I loathe to do that because I really don't like the Android OS. (Their hardware though I think is not to bad at times).

I care. I use my phone outside (shock I know!) and sometimes when I'm outside I carry things. When I'm carrying things it's nice to be able to call someone or answer a call without stopping to put them down. Even if I'm a really bad boy and speak on my phone briefly while driving (for some reason many cars, even and especially the nice German ones, still don't include Bluetooth as standard!) then it's better if I can keep at least one hand on the wheel.

I work with a bunch of "normal" people who don't come on forums like this, get whatever phone Carphone Warehouse recommends with a deal and none, repeat none of them like the super-large 5"+ phone's they've tried, opting instead for the sub 5" models they can easily hold in, you guessed it, one hand.

If you can't do the above with one hand, you are doing something wrong.
I can swipe to answer with one hand on my nexus 5 .
I can make a call with one hand.
You are correct about one thing, it would be hard to write a 200 word email while driving my car on my Nexus 5.

Next year I hope they have three iPhones in their line up: 4, 4.7, and 5.5 inch phones. Then everyone should be happy right?;)

Nope. The8thark will only be happy if there is only one pure version that hasn't been sullied with innovation or options. All hail the one iPhone utopia. All hail the kingdom of Apple and thy throne of Jobs. One iPhone. One iPad. One Macbook. One iMac. One to the power of one. One leader. One voice. One unified voice of followers. Offical apps only. No deviation. Follow the path to nirvana.

The sheep can and do buy crap. That is voting with their wallets. Doesn't mean you should also design the same crap and sell it to woo the same customers over to you. Build/design something even better. That will woo over the same crowds and you'll have a better device as well.

Again the8th, if you are right about this, buy nothing… stand by… and let the non-sheep NOT vote with their wallets. Apple wants the money. If enough hold back their money, Apple will realize this terrible mistake:rolleyes: and backtrack to what you consider the perfect size.

It's fine for anyone to feel any way about this, but I suspect you are in the minority. Right now that still feels like a big group but after Apple rolls them out tomorrow a lot of the group will "now that I've seen one" and "I'll have to wait and see one in the stores" only to get to "shut up and take my money" and "best iPhone ever" in the next few days or weeks.

It's always like this just before the launch. Then, Apple turns rumors into reality and the negative crowd thins out. Will there still be some griping afterwards? Sure, there's always some (myself sometimes included). But if you feel like the group sharing your sentiment is large, I bet it won't feel that way after the big show. Post #16 sums it up for me too. I made that PDF of the 3 sizes to compare the 4.7" and 5.5" sizes in a physical size in my own hands. After seeing how well both "fit", the 5s size looks much too small (to me).

I wouldn't even be surprised to see you in the "now that I've seen one" swing. But, if not, the 5s or 5c will continue to work as it does now. And those run every single app available in the app store, fit every pocket they fit now, "one handed use" and so on.

Looking forward to the first iPhone since my 4 with a battery that can make it through the day. (And no I don't care how the rest of you use your phone or how I'm using mine wrong.)

If battery life is what will distinguish the bigger one from the smaller, it'll be worth the extra cost. Don't really care how big or small my phone is, I'm just tired of charging it.

Of course iOS and it's GPS-hogging apps have a lot to do with bad battery life. I expect things will only get worse with iOS 8 and beyond.

I would guess battery life will be about the same due to more pixel dense displays, but hey I'm with ya and I hope these phones last all day (or more).

Hey no need for that, I didn't say I use it all the time just a feature that nice to know you have.

Apple aren't stupid they know they can't just make it a bigger version of the 4.7 iPhone. They know they need extra features on it that they know works on a bigger device.

I believe what apple is doing here is not differentiating the 5.5 inch from the 4.7 inch. What they are doing is to give people an option to replace their Samsung notes.

Have you gone out and actually seen bigger-screen smart phones or are you just basing this on your imagination? Some of the Android crowd own phones with 6" and bigger screens and aren't wearing "baggy MC Hammer" pants so they can pocket their phones.

As a person who actually used a phone larger than 6" for a while, yes, you really do need a pants with a bigger pocket. I literally couldn't sit down with the phone in the pocket because it was stretching the pocket and I was afraid the phone was going to snap. I stopped wearing jeans while using that phone.

After using that phone for a few months and giving up, I only laugh whenever I read claims such as

- "you'll never go back to small phones after using large phones" or
- "5.5 phones will look small if you use phones with larger than 6" displays"

Yes, you can still prefer and even do go back to small displays after using large displays. I went to the Moto G because it was reasonably small and cheap. And no, a 5.5" phone do not look small after using 6"+ phones, at least to my eyes. I still see the Galaxy Note and likes as big phones.

Well they will need to pack it with good enough features to make it worth leaving as a note user.

Well, than thanks god it doesnt depend on you. Split screen on a phone is no sense. You cant possably achive useful user interface on a screen than small. iOS already have multitasking and it works fine. You can do many things at the same time, but you only see one app on the screen. Even on the iPad is no sense. Splitscreen and multiscreen is nice when you are working in your office, and you have all your documents open at the same time and that is the only time when it is actually useful, because the extra screen space is allwoing you to make fast reference and information checks. You can overlook various proceses at the same time. It let you have faster workflow. Splitscreen is desktop feature that is useful only when you sufficient screen side. On a phone or tablet, there is not space, not for my eyes at least.

I know that you will say that its just me, and everybody else are multitasking ans splitscreening all the time, but the real world use shows the opposite. While people are texting they normaly pause their video player and dont watch it side by side. While people a typing email, they dont watch slideshow of their photos on the other side of the screen.

Improve cross-app data sharing, faster swtich between apps, improve interface of the apps, thats what is needed, not the stupid split screen.

Just my opinion....

+1

couldn't have said it any better myself. nice!

But the 5,5" will also be thin, I guess. :)

Or the 4,7" battery capacity is not correct, or the 5,5" will be thicker.

the 5-5 is a little bit thicker. by like 0.2-.03 mm I think? roughly

1. I rock an iPhone 1 still. Take that how ever you want to.

2. I still think the iPad mini was a bad idea to have released. Profitable yeah but if I was CEO I would said no to it. I won't suddenly change my tune about something just cause it's released. In saying that I am really interested to hear how Apple's new oversized phone is not a "me too" device. I want to see Apple sell the oversized phone at the keynote. And sell it damn well I hope.

3. I have used oversized android phones and I didn't like them cause of the size. The smaller android smart phones on the other hand I quite liked.

4. Not everyone has the same hands. Also fitting in your hand is not the same as practically using with one hand. If fitting in one hand is all you want, I can lift my 21.5 iMac with one hand. The iMac fits in my hand. Usable? Not even close. You get what I mean there.

5. The 5s still works ya but it's EOL for app and OS updates will come sooner than the 6 will. And at the price iPhones cost, we want as much life out of them as we can get. Having to jailbreak a phone just to get old versions of apps (like I did in my iPhone 1) works but it's not ideal.

5. People will buy what they want or what they are advertised to as the best device. This might not be the best device out there. Sheep just buying whatever the advertising says. It's why some of the android phones are so popular. You can either have a good product and people buy it or you can peddle crap and have the sheep buy it. End result is both result in profits for the business, but only one of the 2 is a good device. Amount of sales is no indicator to quality of product.

I'll probably be doing this, I do want the 5.5. screen but the bezel will make it even harder to hold. Unless Apple drastically reduce the size on the 5.5. I'll be going for the 4.7 and waiting for a smaller 5.5 in the subsequent years.
Good call. I was torn between the two not sure what to get if they were both offered for preorder. Not anymore after seeing the supposed 4.7" on YouTube and messing with my nephews old Galaxy that's 4.8" my minds made up. It actually felt big in my hands anything bigger especially when you factor in the bezels would just be ridiculous.

Nor will you be...anywhere. You clearly do not understand the responsibilities or duties involved.
