What one PPC do you own?
Here's my current Quicksilver set-up. I also finally got dug out today and made it into work, so while I was there I took the time to snap a photo of my work G5 set-up. I've posted both here before, but not in this thread.
What do you do for a living that you get to use the G5?
For the time being, I'm a full-time graduate student in Chemistry. The G5 does everything I need a computer to do(for work purposes at least). Basically, as long as I have Word, Powerpoint, Chemdraw(for drawing chemical structures) and Endnote(citation management) I'm good to go. I have all of those.
For some reason I thought you were a high end watch specialist with a strange obsession with PowerPC Macs.
I do the watch thing as a hobby
(high end is probably relative-most of the watches I deal in are antique American pocket watches at the sub-$500 end of the spectrum).
See the thing about the G5s that i dont like is that they don't really have any honor of that era. That is when Apple ended the party of beautiful Macs and went back to humble basic simple aluminum boxes. A G5 looks exactly like a Mac Pro; the only thing that makes them kind-of special is they have a PowerPC processor, so they steal the honor from the G4s and G3s. Why have a G5 when you can have a Mac Pro? The only real reason is because of the cost. They have much more compatibility so they are worth more. But I wouldn't use a G5 for the sake of it being a PowerPC Mac. It's the beautiful G4s and G3s, especially the iMac G3 who have the real glory of PowerPC Mac. If all PowerPC Macs looked exactly like the previous beige machines or looked like the new aluminium machines then they would have no glory. Nobody would care. There would be no interest, because they are no different than any other machine, besides the processor.
Chemists must make a lot of money to afford all those PPC Macs! I look forward to seeing the TiBook thread!
Trust me, grad student pay isn't that great. Most of my PPC money is from dealing in watches.
You seem to have it backwards, the mac pro looks like a G5 tower. But, regardless, I actually prefer the aluminum cases of the G5 style. Hell, I wish somebody made replica cases that were styled like G5, but made to fit the older macs, I would love to have a smaller, but authentic looking cheese grater case for my MDD, or my beige G3 tower, or my quadra 840av! No more cracking, no more yellowing, great looks, and better cooling to boot.
I know the Mac Pro looks like the G5 but the G5 also looks like the Mac Pro.
And there were more models of Mac Pro than G5.
They all look alike.
With the G4 and G3, each new model looked different. Each model was special. Now they are all alike and barely any different.
Actually, the Mac Pro and the G5 are pretty easily distinguished from each other from the front...

I mean the computers, like the iMac G3 and G4 and PowerMac G3 B&W and PowerMac G4 Yikes!/Sawtooth/Digital Audio/QuickSilver/MDD. I don't really like the iMac G5 and PowerMac G5... they all look the same and grey like the old beige/platinum machines.
And also from the back
G5s have two fan exhaust ports, about 80mm in size. Mac Pros have one, about 120mm in size.
That said, it's been an incredible machine. We don't really use it anymore which is a shame. It's totally mint, and we still have all the packaging/manuals/accessories for it. We keep it around because it's awesome.
