Good luck with that, as ghall pointed out, iOS 5 uses more RAM right off the bat than iOS 4, so 256MB gets smaller and smaller. But I agree with you; the whole thing makes me angry, especially given Apple's insistence we shouldn't care about specs (and not releasing RAM info) and the original Mac 128KB RAM fiasco. It would be different if Apple had a track record of rigorously crunching the footprint of subsequent OS releases, but they do not. The reason iOS 5 is so bad, crashing-wise with Safari on the iPad 1, is that after boot there is only about 85MB of free RAM available (iOS uses 2/3 of your RAM just to become operational) and quite a few web sites' homepage (TechCrunch) renders larger than that. Apple.com uses 25MB, MacRumors.com the same. Forget about loading multiple tabs, can't do it.

That "don't need to concern yourself with specs" stuff was so BS.

Fortunately, I haven't experienced any crashing issues with Safari on my iPad 1, so I wonder if there's some other issue with yours, or if you're not running the most current version. Or maybe I'm just lucky.

I don't get these problems at all? If anything I have to switch from chrome to make a lot of sites work.

Most problems I get are sites that use asp and .net crap.

You of course realize we are talking about iOS (iPhone/iPad/iPod touch) and not OS X, right?

Well, I would assume that depends on when they release the new iPad. It will probably be released a day or two before they release the iPad. I would assume that we won't be seeing the new hardware for another week or two, so you should probably use the same window for the release date of 5.1

Siri still works like crap in Canada, I hardly use it.. Actually only when I want to set a timer, sine it's easier on that then to find my clock app

I think you'll see the GM of 5.1 and an updated SDK made available to developers tomorrow so that we can get our hands on the @2x support for the (presumed) iPad retina display (although everyone should already have 2x assets ready).

I'm betting on iOS 5.1 being released on the 14th, two days ahead the new iPad going on sale.

Because some of us still see instances of phantom usage. I've seen my phone drain about 25% overnight.

I hope 5.1 includes Facebook integration, that's a feature I'd use a lot. Improving notifications a bit more would also be nice but I'm not holding my breath

I have a UK 4s and have the 3G on/off toggle.
