You need to go to t-mobile.com and sign up there. You need the ICCD number for the sim card inside your new iPhone 6. Just go to Settings>General>About. It will ask you for your current carrier's account number/password, your device IMEI (not important), the phone number you want ported, etc. Make sure you select the pre-paid $30 100 minutes/5gb Data option. Simple, takes about 5 minutes.

If I'm getting this as a new line, instead of porting a number, will I get a new one?

If the rumors are true T-Mobile signs a data roaming agreement with att I will drive down to the tmobile store immediately. I work in the field and need pristine reception. I have a "unlimited" plan on att but in July I hit my data cap 10 days into the month.

This is anecdotal but my friend works in the cell tower construction industry. He says that until recently he would see most towers having 3 times the equipment from Verizon, and to a lesser extent at&t, compared to T-Mobile. He also said that even on brand new builds T-Mobile was hooking up T1s while the other 2 had fiber.

Things have changed though he said that T-Mobile has been offering his company absurd money to give them priority for their LTE build. Its a gold rush in their industry for the next few years so just to get guys out there to put up the antennas is biiiiig bucks.

Until they get a roaming agreement I'm sticking with att, and hopefully reaping the benefit of some real competition.

I've got a SIM kit I can pop in my Nexus so I can roadtest for the next couple. I have a grandfathered ATT unlimited plan, with an upgrade, but hold no loyalty towards them.

I'm basically paying $70, unlimited data throttled at 5GB, 200 texts, 450 minutes, for the same $30 T-Mobile plan, unlimited data throttled at 5GB, unlimited texts, 100 minutes, right now. The catch is the coverage in the Cleveland/Akron area. My monthly usage averages 75GB in data, 175 texts, and 20 minutes talk.

Switch is complete! I have to say that I am very very happy with my switch to TMO so far. WiFi calling changes everything for me. Also, surprisingly, my TMO cell signal is better on the 6 than AT&T was on the 5S. Better hardware obviously but it is so much better at home and at work where AT&T also struggled with reception. Out and about on the street, service is better than or at least not worse than AT&T in terms of reception & speed. Love the savings on my bill too.

I would never switch to T-Mobile as my primary carrier since there are still far too many pockets of 2G coverage and No Service as well. AT&T is much better for coverage in the area of Philly.

I'm in the Suburban area of Philadelphia, and it works fantastic for me. And VoLTE! I really love T-Mobile's network progress. I've definitely seen it happen from last year to this year.

i was doing the chat with them and found out that NEXT phones don't qualify for their ETF reimbursement. only traditional 2 year contract phones.

might switch because my inlaws came back from europe with an almost $200 bill for almost 3 hours of calls.

That's good news. We're considering switching from Verizon when our contract is up. Suburban Philly Verizon coverage is awful for us.

Who is switching to T-Mobile for the new iPhone

I tried but they wanted me to pay $300 upfront plus pay an additional $175 for my ETF with Verizon. That's almost $500 that I don't have all at once. So for right now until I save for 2-3 months to pay off my entire EDGE installment balance, I'll stick with Verizon then MAYBE move to T-Mobile. I just found out that Cricket has a 10GB/unlimited texts & calling plan for $60/m. Looks very nice. Right now I'm paying Verizon $50/m for 2GB of data/unlimited texts & calls, plus the EDGE monthly installments that are gonna start next month, PLUS $20 home connect fee. Smh. The only thing I get right now is a 15% employee discount. Just imagine all the savings I would get with T-Mobile or Cricket.

I sure am considering it! I love the features of T-Mobile.....unlimited everything, no throttling (good!!), free text and data in 120+ countries when travelling, 5GB hotspot....and will be cheaper than my current AT&T plan. Also, with the whole "largest 2G network in the country" by mid-2015 all the 2G coverage will be LTE. That's really not too far away....

Here's my dilemma though.....I have grandfathered "unlimited" data on AT&T, have been throttled, and considering jumping ship for that reason alone (plus other benefits of T-Mobile).

My question is, should I do it? If AT&T stops being stupid and getting rid of throttling, and I jumped ship to T-Mobile and is subpar, that would suck!

Check out the coverage maps for your area. Check out http://www.rootmetrics.com too for another perspective. I'd imagine that all the carriers are good in Los Angeles (except Sprint). If you're in an area where both T-Mobile and AT&T are good then it's a no brainer to go with T-Mobile.

If you have good coverage in your are and you are not a regular traveler, go with Tmobile. I switched when I got my 6plus and have no regrets. 40mbs lte and I've use 30 gb since the 19th.

Actually, if you travel internationally, you definitely should get TMobile ;)

What's your average data usage on AT&T? I also had the grandfathered unlimited plan and gave it up a few weeks ago for TMO. I've been very very happy so far. If the coverage in the areas you are in are good or are in WiFi areas a lot, definitely switch. If you sign up under a referral, you can get unlimited high speed for a year.

I've heard in Los Angeles T-Mobile has the fastest LTE speeds, and most reliable coverage. I've personally never had a problem with AT&T's coverage. I travel all over the country and 99.9% of the time I've never had a problem. I'm just hoping T-Mobile is the same, I mainly travel to metro areas so I'm not really concerned there - but I sometimes do go to the back country and that's where I'm doubting. However T-Mobile is kicking ass lately beefing up their network. Above all I just don't like AT&T's practices. I really like T-Mobile's approach...no bs, no throttling, and their international features are unbeatable for $80/mo.

Obviously when we talk about coverage we mean domestic coverage. Internationally involves roaming as tmobile does not have coverage internationally.

I definitely recommend either the Test Drive or getting a prepaid SIM and use it for a few days to see if it works for you. I did that a year ago and it just wasn't strong enough for me so I stayed with AT&T. It's gotten so much better in such a short amount of time + the WiFi calling sealed the deal for me. I have coverage in places even AT&T couldn't reach, like my apartment. haha.

It's actually not obvious when you say "travel" depending on your on experiences. When I talk travel, it usually means outside of the US. Seems as if that's not the case of you. And it's relevant to the discussion as TMO has free roaming in many countries, so if you travel internationally, it's a good reason to switch.

recent convert here in LA. had ATT for almost 15 years with 2 udp. I have to say, tmobile is just okay. out in the open the signal is great. however, go into a mall store or in a huge building near the center and signal goes to zero. was at the Beverly connection marshals and straight up no signal. this is the heart of LA with a tmobile store 1 block away. at the end of the day, I was tired of att nickle and diming me. I hope that tmobile spends the money to upgrade their network some more so that more people jump the att ship. lol hope att goes down in flames.

Poor signal in most of the Las Vegas casinos. Rather poor coverage if you are at the Poker table.

Actually, T-Mobile USA has a sister company in Europe, also called T-Mobile, which is one of the largest cellular carriers there, especially in Germany where it is the largest carrier.

Can anyone give me some accounts of real world coverge when traveling internationally? How good is the speed? I go on a trip or 2 per year, and att bends me over every time.

edge speeds and 3g in a few areas. Good enough for emails, texting and audio streaming.
