Google Pixel 4/Pixel 4 XL

In these new pics, seems the colored back is ONLY the back now, not the sides frame like previous Pixel's . The black front goes around the frame now too.

I don't like that

If the face unlock works as good as the iPhone Xs, I have no issue going to face unlock only. Face ID works pretty much flawlessly for me and I actually prefer it to rear fp scanners as my phone is always on a stand at work or a windshield mount in my car. It's far easier to just look at the phone and it's already unlocked instead of having to grab it off the stand or pick up off the table and unlock and then set back down.

That looks really bad. What is Google thinking with these colors and black borders? Awful. I wish they would have stuck with just the Pixel 3 colors. I find it quite annoying that they change the colors with each iteration.

Edit: The black frame reminds me of those cheap bumper cases.

My wife has the 2 XL, and me 3 XL, and when I use her 2 XL, I always see the large forehead bezel, just seems extra thick and big for a bezel on a phone, and I never thought Google would go backwards in design to large bezels.

I know at the end of the day, performance, and stock Android are the key features here, as well as best camera on a smartphone, are #1 over what size bezel the phone has, but still, it looks dated for a 2019 new smartphone.

And for the suggested price of $900+, we still only get 6GB RAM, and a small 3,700mAh battery, whereas the cheaper OnePlus 7 Pro has 8GB to 12GB RAM, and a larger battery, and a more customizable OS, and more fluid smoother OS, I sure hope Google upped the performance to match the smoothness of Oxygen OS.

RAM shouldnt really matter too much now that Google is at least using a respectable amount. Stock android just doesnt need much to stay fluid. You will probably only notice a difference if you try to go back 8-10 apps and the phone with 12 GB of RAM will keep more in memory. Day to day usage it wont be noticeable.

I full agree regarding the battery. Unless Google has done some really special optimization, I cant see a 3700 mAh battery providing decent battery life with a 90Hz screen.

And that's where the Pixel 3a enters the conversation. Knowing that maybe a 4a could be around the corner, and if it follows suit, it could have better battery than the 4.

Having just picked up a 2XL to have a play with Android 10 I can say that the bezels aren't really an issue at all. I'd much rather the larger bezels that the hideous looking 3XL and it's oversized notch.

Whilst the design of the Pixel 4 may not be the most futuristic design it's certainly a step up from the previous model - IMO.

Trade off for an even larger notch than last year due to the added sensors.

TBH I greatly prefer this neatly done forehead. You might rather have a larger notch.
Remember when Apple did the notch it wasn't meant as a nice attractive design element or they would have used it before. It was simply making the best of what was necessary for the tech they decided to use. Same here.

How about no Face ID type of thing, no Frankenstein forehead bezel, but also no notch.

Do the under the display fingerprint scanner like the Galaxy and OnePlus phones.

Shame it's likely to be next summer again before a 4a is released. Wouldn't really make sense to release it soon as it'll undoubtedly take away sales from their flagship.

I wish Google would do some official leather cases like the ones for iPhone & Galaxy phones. Loved the fabric ones I had for the 2XL but aside from the black, they all looked grubby within a couple of months.

I'm not sure about security, but the fp scanner in the Note 10 and OnePlus 7 Pro are slower for me than the traditional fp sensors like seen in the pixel 3 as well as face id on the iPhone Xs. My preference (if done well) is face id (iPhone Xs) -> optical fp scanner (pixel 3, etc. that have been done for many years now) -> in display fp scanner.
