Three types of dSLR Video/Cine Lenses, which one would you choose ??

I would say if the focus mechanism is quiet, go for the Tokina. I've never used one before so I don't know how they sound. Obviously focus noise isn't an issue with photographs but it can be for video.

What camera are you getting? Unless it is a 5dmkII and you are doing this for professional work ALL THE TIME, then those lens are overkill.

If you are going full frame Canon, just get some "L" glass for the time being. You could get 3-4 lenses for the price of those zeiss and you would have a set of glass that holds value, will shoot ANYTHING you want and if down the road you want more specialty glass, you can sell them and get different ones.

Also, rent the glass from your local place first for a day and see if it really is worth the money. Problem with these cameras is you quickly spend WAY more than body on lens and kits to actually make them more shootable for video (cages, rails, glide cams, etc). The price effectiveness of the video now is reduce and people say "but I can change lenses!" You would have been better off with an EX-3 or something if using cine lens is your thing and ouy have that kind of money.



Right now I am using the Canon EFS17-55 f/2.8 IS ($1040) as my goto lens for video on my t2i and am loving it.

It's a lot more complicated to make a good cine lens than still lens. The focus ring is just one aspect. It has to be super tight and precise. The lens should also not breath much when you pull focus, a non issue with stills. If it's a zoom it need to be able to hold focus through the whole zoom range.
I find using still lenses doable, but far from ideal shooting with the 5d

go with MF lenses or AF lenses with a long and smooth focusing throw. I doubt the 11-16 has a good focusing ring, usually those are in telephotos. it doesn't have silent focusing, either, only Sigma and Canon have the technology (well, now Tamron does, too, but there's only one lens with it).

for MF glass, it doesn't have to be Zeiss or some other "brand" name. Nikkor, Pentax, Olympus, etc. all made good lenses.

I'd much rather pull focus with the Zeiss CP.2 lenses than the others, which don't even have a proper gear to mesh with a follow focus unit (much less the precise markings and long ring travel)...
