I am trying to burn a dvd that I have, that I put onto my hard drive
and I'm not quite sure what you mean by what kind of media am I using?
By media, I meant something like "Memorex 8x DVD-R" or whatever - probably not important.
What is possibly an issue, without knowing what you are trying to burn, is that the original DVD was copy protected. I believe you have the right to make backup copies, and I'm not getting in any way holier-than-thou (I make them), just curious: was the original DVD a commercial one? How did you get it to your hard drive?

Also, just to make sure, are your .VOBs in a VIDEO_TS folder? If so, you should burn them as a DVD in the data section, or alternatively if you have the latest (6.0.7?) you can tell Toast that is is a VIDEO_TS in the advanced options of the Video section.
Jen, your problem is that .vob files on DVDs are encrypted. In order to copy a DVD or burn a DVD you have saved on your hard drive you have to first decrypt the .vob files.
go to www.versiontracker.com and find a program called DVDbackup. This program copies the .vob DVD files to your hard drive, decrypting them as it goes along. Next, unless you are burning onto dual layer DVD-R discs or trying to copy a DVD that isn't dual layer (both highly unlikely), you need to download a program called DVD2to1X or something, can't remember the exact name. This program will compress the dual-layer original into a size that can be burned onto single layer disc with minimal quality loss. This program requires registration so you will either have to purchase a serial number or enter an illegal one (it doesn't sound like what you're doing is legal anyway). In DVD2to1X, select the option to make a disc image. When it is done, you will have a disc image of the DVD you want to copy, decrypted and properly sized for single layer DVD media. Then open toast, specify that you want to burn a Disc Image, and then burn. Then you will have an exact copy of the original DVD, with all menus and options intact and available, with only slight video quality loss (so slight you won't notice).

You probably don't need to re-decrypt them. However, if you have access to the original DVD, I'd re-rip it (DVDBackup is nice; I tend to use MacTheRipper - also free).
In any event, either app should rip to a folder containing a VIDEO_TS folder already - burn that using Toast, and all should be well.
BTW, MacTheRipper (and possibly others) have a feature which allows you to rip only the main feature, meaning that you won't have all the extra garbage (menus, special features, etc.) and it'll mean it's more likely to fit on a DVD.

When you click Copy at the top, the drawer on the left will change and include an option for Image File.
