Has anyone noticed this? I have to use a way lower volume for ringtones, than I did on the iPhone 4.

i hope this is true! how is the ear speaker volume? a louder phone imo is always a plus!

It's definitely louder to me.

----------

It's loud enough that when you turn it up to full volume it gets somewhat distorted.

Huh?

I hope it's louder. It would help me.

Trust me, you don't want to know.

I have the iPhone 4 not S and updated iTunes to 10.5 2 days ago. Yesterday I made a custom ringtone with iTunes and loaded it on my iPhone 4. It is way louder than any other ringtones I made before. Maybe it's just a coincidence.

The lady at AT&T turned my volume up all the way for my voicemail and as soon as I began typing, I noticed a dramatic difference in sound.

I like it!

Louder or not, I have a 3GS with a messed up speaker. Anything is an upgrade! Just glad I chose a 4S :D

My iPhone 4 is definitely a lot louder as well. I have noticed the difference because i have my iPhone in a Sena leather case and when the phone rang i had to double take as i thought i hadn't put my phone back in the case, but i had!

i have not got a 4S to compare it against but it might be the iOS 5 that has increased the volume globally?

I forgot to add that I'm still running 4.3.5. So I have no idea why my ringtone is so loud, way louder than the song in the iPod app and way louder than the other ringtones.

A large part of this is probably having a new speaker without accumulated dust/lint attached to it and the grill (especially the grill). I noticed a while back when a friend of mine got a brand new iPhone 4 that his was noticeably louder than my girlfriend's identical, but older phone.

Prettys sure iOS 5 made the phone louder. Because my iPhone 4 is wayyyy louder than it was before iOS 5.

Significantly louder! I was impressed, as before, I sometimes had a hard time hearing it ring, or when on speaker phone.

Fairly sure its louder, I thought it seemed louder, like maximum almost being too loud.

Yeah. Really loud. Even the lock and unlock sounds were absurdly loud, and the volume was only maybe 30%.

I increased the volume one or two notches for the first time and it actually got lower. So it's as if the sound somehow was initialized to be at some arbitrary volume level and but messing w/ the volume buttons it kicked the sound driver in the ass and brought it back into spec.
