Lots of support from the US

Yes. He attended MIT and Harvard, too.

Oh well. I'd say Twitter's Twitter and it's just a quick tweet, but it's coming from the Israeli PM for the world to see.

Yes they school them then send them over to rule the homeland and receive billions of dollars a year whilst Americans are poor and face high unemployment.

Sir Steve would have never done this deal. Sir Steve had strong principals.

Why so hostile?

I'm sure as hell not.
So you think there is no value in Anobits technology?
Israel receives on average about 3 billion in direct foreign assistance each year from the U.S.
Though highly justified has nothing to do with this purchase. If Apple purchases a Canadian company will you be similarly hostile. I've seen nothing but ignorance so far in your posts, instead of repeating this crap show us how Anobit is a bad value.
I don't understand why Apple did this, they could've bought a similar deal here in the U.S.
OK buddy please come up with a list companies world wide that specialize in signal processing logic for Flash memory chips?
Couldn't agree more, this is outrageous!
How can you even say this without knowing what Anobit is valued at, nor what near term or long term technologies they are working on. Apple may or may not have paid to much for the firm but you can't really say without knowing what sort of income the company is currently bringing in.
Somebody in Apple persuaded them with tactics (that worked) and to pay that much for this in Israel

Huh?

Apple is the last company I know of to make snap decisions with respect to buying up a company. As to the value of the company that has little to do with where they are located. Flash manufactures, that is Anobit licensees, are spread throughout the world, as long as the $$$$$$$$ get back to Apple who cares where the company is located.

Steve was not a "Sir". You may think that "Mr. Jobs" may have had strong principals - but Apple did many things under his watch that were dishonest or at least questionable.

Paul McCartney, on the other hand, is "Sir Paul". Elton John is "Sir Elton".

Standard protocols would call Sir Elton's husband "Lady John" or "Lady Furnish" (depending on whether you use the knight's surname or the surname used by the spouse), but hopefully those protocols will be updated soon.

It's "principles" not "principals". And are you suggesting that Apple buying Anobit is somehow "dishonest" or "morally questionable"?

Agree, worst investment ever for Apple.

Lets see what comes of this purchase

That kind of comment shows the complete ignorance of how business works. Your assuming that nothing coming from this is a bad thing. How many times do you make a decision in your daily life that results in nothing actually happening? You do it so that nothing BAD happens. Same thing is done in business. It is entirely possible that this purchase was simply to keep competition from purchasing the company or an increase in demand for the tech developed which would causing an increase expenses for Apple.

There is also the chance that we may never be allowed to see what comes from this purchase. Apple likes to hide info and it isn't like most of us would actually understand what it is exactly that they did even if they did tell us.

Did anybody else find the quote quite funny? Adam and Eve? Fruit of knowledge? Does it ring a bell?

So you agree with me, this is an IP acquisition which could be used for a lot of things, of which some I listed are possibilities and of which others you listed are possibilities.

If you agree with me, why so confrontational ?

Where did you get the idea that I agree with you?
As far as I can see, your "point" is defining this as an "IP acquisition", which I don't understand. They acquired a company, with thingies like products and engineers and buildings and such. Why that spin on "IP"?

So, no, I don't see anything to agree on.

And again you seem to take direct questions as confrontation. I'll repeat my original question: how on earth can you be so sure about your characterizations?

75% of it is spent in the United States. It supports American Businesses. Actually, we should invest more in Israel.

Actually it's closer to 100%. The money is given to the US Navy, which uses its regular purchasing procedures to buy stuff. The restriction on this is that 75% of the product must be made in the US.

Before 2007 it was considered bad form for the US government to subsidize, let alone own businesses. This hurt American companies, especially in the defense sector, who were competing against highly subsidized competitors in Europe. Foreign military aid was one way to do it anyway. Of course, these days the USG openly subsidizes businesses, especially in the financial sector, so that kind of shame is gone.

Apple are already using the technology from this firm according to other thread about this acquisition. So no, this won't really help Apple in the sense of "better and more efficient Flash memory chips in the future". This will probably just stabilise their licensing costs and prevent new players from using this same technology. It might also provide patent ammunition to go after other players in the mobile industry.

Let's not kid ourselves about what this is about.

It is unlikely that Apple bought a research firm for the patents. These patents would already be released under terms that allow them to be licensed fairly to anyone. This is definitely about steering their research in a direction that benefits Apple products or using their expertise to use their technology in a more integrated way.
