I just brought in my 5c into the Apple store because of the same issue. I couldn't recreate the sound when I was at the store (of course). I told them that there's a creaking/clicking sound when I use the touch screen. And I told him I didn't know I bought a Blackberry Storm (the touch screen where you actually have to physically click). The guy brought it to the backroom and started playing with it. He confirmed that there was a hollow popping noise on the left side when using the device and brought out a replacement for me. He told me to play with the replacement for about 5 minutes and had me leave with a replacement device. He told me that there should be no noises like that when using the phone.

I would say try again. It's not normal.

Well I went in today with my third creaky 5c and got a non creaky 5s. I do like the phone very much but will miss the personality of the 5c. As frustrating as it was Apple made it right for me in the end.

Why don't you just look at the demo models in store and compare to them

I did that and was not able to produce the effect. I am pretty sure it's a problem affecting a certain batch or shipment that I just got three in a row of. Rather than going for a fourth and more wasted time at the store , I'll be satisfied with the 5s until next gen.

crackgate :D

Let's go for Creakgate.

Using any kind of logic - if you've had three devices with the same "issue", they're all going to do it.

For the record, my iPhone 5 does this, and so did my 3GS.

My 3GS also did this, as did my Nexus 4 on the glass back plate. It'd bother me any time I remembered the creak existed.. which was every couple months. I now have a Galaxy S5 and it creaks just looking at it.

Luckily, I have enough real stress that creaky phones are pretty low on my list of things to worry about.

They just gave you a free 5s as a replacement for your 5c?! That's awesome!
