I have about 35GB on music. My previous iphone was a 4 with 32Gb which was obviously not enough. I bought myself a 64Gb iPhone 5s, problem solved :)
I don't think I will need more than 64Gb however.

 35GB music? How many songs do you have? My 16GB iphone has almost 300 songs all of tham with HD album artwork and it only takes 2GB of space.

An iSupply teardown of the iPhone 5 revealed the 64GB NAND chip costs around $40. A 128GB chip is probably in the $60-70 range depending on how mass produced it is. Apple can spend an extra $20-30 on a 128GB chip and charge an extra $100 for a markup on the completed unit and people will pay it. If they want to keep the pricing structure the same it may take a while for the 128GB chip to drop to the same $40 price that the 64GB is currently. Perhaps it can be offset by the prices of other components coming down but likely at the expense of performance.

I think a 32GB base model replacing the 16GB - while keeping the entry level price the same - is way overdue at this point. Maybe they don't want to drop the 16GB until 128GB is viable because they want to stick to three capacity options. If that's the case make 32/64/128GB options and charge an extra $50 for the top-end model, many people will pay it.

I thinks it's time for apple to do away with the 16 gig model After a few weeks of taking pics my phone is full of pictures and videos of my 1 year old son. i mean they improve the camera and guess what comes with a better camera bigger .jpg files. and ios 7 takes up almost 10 % of the 16 gig storage as well. I would really love to see them go with expandable storage as well.

What, can't you transfer all the videos and photos to your computer? Is that to much trouble.

I hate when people say "Wow who would pay $1000 for a phone!". People, this is 2013. This is not a phone. It's a computer/camera/camcorder/pager/messenger/phone/gaming/flashlight/walkman (and then some) all in one device.

If you would have said 15-20 years ago you could have all those things in 1 device that fits in the palm of your hand we would have thought it would have cost thousands. I think the price is fair for what it is.

I agree but people on here will tell you the cloud is the solution to everything.

Its a fact. Most people would not pay that. They would rather get a 16 or 32 gb and manage their content. Thats what I do with my 32gb 5s. I dont need my 60gb music collection on my device. It would take over a year to listen to them all.

That's not a lot, at all. It depends on the bit rate as well. For example, I have a 17,000 song library taking up 160GB, but about 800 of those songs are taking up an insane number, something like 40GB, because of being in 1536kbps aiff.

Where do you get 1536 kbps song? I bought a few albums of a band from itunes and all songs were 320 kbps. I didn't even hear about 1536.

.. you rip them from your own physical CD collection. One of several good things about not purchasing digital music.

I managed to get some songs from a torrent with 1536 kbps, they were flac and every song was about 60 mb size but there was no difference between them and the 320 kbps songs. I don't know if it's because the band was to good:D (arctic monkeys). Even thought it might not be a difference, why would someone waste so much space with one song? With 60 mb, I get a full album.

FLAC is s***, to be honest. It's compatible with almost nothing. What program did you use to listen to it? Maybe it was Apple lossless, because .flac is far from supported in iTunes it's affiliated devices. When comparing high bit-rate files to other files, it depends on how that file was made. For example, if you have a song in your iTunes library in 128kbps and you change your import settings to 1536 aiff or Apple lossless then right click on the file to create a new version in that format, it's still going to sound like crap, maybe even worse. That is one of the reasons I try to keep getting high bit rate songs from my physical library only. Then you also have to account for the speakers you're using. I get a surplus of storage so I don't have to worry about how much it takes up. And damn, if you have a 12 track album only taking up 60MB, I feel so bad for you for the poor quality it must be in. Even 256-320kbps albums take up ~90-140MB.

Well, I exaggerated a bit, for example a 15 songs album takes about 90-95 mb and of my songs are 320, also, for those flac songs, Ive used vlc.

With HD video recording and needing offline music for travel, I need a 256 GB at least

I never have and never will watch full length movies on my iPhone, and I don't really know what else I could fill it up with. I store everything on my mac, thats where I will need more space in the future. judging by the difference in price from the 16 gb to 64 gb model, I'm sure the 128 gb model will be twice the price of the 16 gb model.

Though I don't think they're expecting everyone wanting a 128GB iPhone to buy 64GB + of iCloud storage.

So u buy 16GB + CLOUD, they will still make more money out of you in the long run. Maybe user end up paying for extra cloud storage.

The rental model seems like what's in the future.
