Just like the iPad, everyone hates so hard early on but as soon as the watch comes out next Spring it will sell out instantly and be the next hot device out.

If you're unhappy about it then switch to Android, grab a Moto 360 watch, and troll Apple forums until you're blue in the face. It won't stop everyone else from buying and enjoying new Apple tech.

Now if only my Nvidia Shield's Gamestream would work, damn garbage so far.

The more people that buy these, the better the phone will be. I suspect Apple will do okay with it. It's not going to beat the iPhone or anything.

They haven't lost their way. They are creating new ways.

If you want them to stand still, you're going to continue to be disappointed endlessly.

If you want a company that stood still, go follow BlackBerry. For as long as they're still in business, anyway...

Hardly creating new ways, this thing is essentially like every other new smart watch, but with premium materials ( and the price will show for that) and what seems like a more complicated UI than android wear, and not as nice.

The design language also doesn't seem to be consistent to what they are doing with IOS 8.

I'll be interested to see how often they update it. Will it get yearly cycles? Less often (my guess) or more often?

This is literally the worst thing I could have imagined. it looks bulbous and ugly, it is overpriced and it only works with an iPhone. On top of that it does Nothing differently or better than all these other smartwatches.

Oh - and did I mention that it will only ship next year? Oh on top of that they were too ashamed to tell people about the battery life.

I really, really, really wanted the Apple Watch to be something special. But this... just isnt it.

I feel really worried about Apple now.

In a couple of years it will be really entertaining to come around and read threads like this one.

While the Apple Watch has kind of grown on me - I still dislike the design. It is not terrible, but there is room for improvement.

Oh and I will not dodge on the fact, that the presentation was terrible. No words on battery life, no real pricing. It was very un-apple to be quite on key aspects of a device.

Even the iPhone had specs when shown the first time, but they used the time they had to imrpove them.

I am not saying that there is no potential, but it is still kind of a letdown.

If you think this is ugly, you have no taste in watches.

I think it looks okay for a square watch. The ikepod influence is clearly evident here they share the same seamless design language.

So maybe that's why they hired newson.

Interestingly, Android fans loved non-round watch designs like the Asus Zenwatch (see comments, not a single one criticizing the shape, mostly the giant bezel) right up until Apple made one. Then, all of the sudden, non-round watches became the devil incarnate.

There is a good article on Bloomberg business week.

Agree with most of this. Apple will definitely carve out a market but it will not disrupt the top end of the market.

With regard to the issue of including GPS in the watch it is definitely a non starter since it will cripple battery life. Using GPS continously as I often do with my iphone when cycling gives you about 2.5 hours maximum and I always carry an external battery source as well.

Live stream was disaster! Presentation I did like it. I think this product is going to go through more refinements and tweaks before it's launched. I guess when they announce a launch day they will give more details on battery life or real pricing, and I guess it won't launch for at least another 6 month. Plenty of time for more improvements on it. It's not that it is launching next week/month and people are anxious to have the information.

I hear the Apple Watch can tell precisely how many seconds it's been since your last meaningful interaction with a real human!

Some of the variations of the watch attempt to look high end, luxurious and prestigious. Other variations look like gaudy plastic toy watches you get for six year olds.

None of them have enough class, if that was a design intention. They look like they were designed by a tech company, not a watch company.

The home screen with a giant cluster of tiny icons and a zoom feature, is a horrible compromise. Some of the app screens have way too much tiny text crammed on them.

So I'm not sure exactly who the target market is...anyone over 50 will struggle to read the screen (includes me). Anyone over 30 will look like a ******** wearing one in the street, at a meeting, in a restaurant etc. And its IMO too expensive for plenty of younger people to buy for themselves.

This is just your opinion. Imagine a world where there other opinions too...

I hadn't seen the Zenwatch. That looks pretty good. The only thing that falls down, for me, is the size. It's taller than the Pebble, which is already 52mm lug to lug. The 38mm of the small Apple Watch is one of the things that really puts it ahead, IMO.

Dieter Rams, Braun and more (photos, links)

… I expected Dieter Rams level design and minimalism.

This is true. You can tell they're saving some low-hanging fruit for further iterations.

I agree with comparisons to the iPad. People, myself included were massively disappointed with the first generation. But the product has come into its own, even if it has seen a bit of a lull since the release of iOS 7.

Actually the developers are still going full steam ahead on iPad stuff. I bumped into the Open Goldberg Variations project the other day. Wow. Bach's Goldberg variations, score, performance and all (and sync'd to the score as it plays, if you like). Never in my life could I have imagined back in the 1950s (LPs on a console player the size of a kitchen base-cabinet) that I'd be looking at that in my lifetime.

I'm excited about the Apple Watch, and I haven't bothered with a watch for about ten years. I'm likely to be an early adopter.
