Two points that were not mentioned in the presentation. 1. Battery life 2. Water resistance.

At this time I would take the looks of the Moto and the functionality of the Apple. Somehow I don't think a large square watch is going to be a big hit. It will get uncomfortable over time on the wrist.

Only time will tell.

It probably will not be uncomfortable. I have very small wrist and wear a pebble every day.

pun intended :D

Yes, for all the time they spend developing it--it looks crappy. They offer nothing really new, it's thick and ugly, and the battery life has got to be horrible. Not much to be excited about. What happened to the flexible super cool display with a flexible battery and all the innovative stuff? What have they been doing with all this development time?

They had to really work hard to sell what's just another smartwatch. They didn't innovate a single thing

Lol what the heck is this comment? "What happened to the fantasy stuff that tech websites made up to get clicks?"

I mean, I can agree with the criticisms of the aesthetics (though I'd suggest that the battery life comments might need to wait) but come on, Apple did not breathe a word of a flexible super cool display or battery or any of that crap.

The Apple Watch has shown to the world that Apple can still innovate. Just watch the videos, the various walkthroughs and read about the features and the ways people can use the product in their every day lives. This is what it's about. Bringing technology to real people, not geeks..This is Apple at its best. If you people don't understand it, then maybe you should go to Google..

On, stop being so sensational. It's a solid first stab.

First stab is great and all, but they're locked into a square screen for at least the next few years.

They dun goof'd.

Also, it's not perfectly square and neither is the dial on the side perfectly centered. I expected Dieter Rams level design and minimalism.

It's a good idea but it reminds me of the ipad 1. Wait and see how much we really need it before investing it will probably be a must have soon.

However it looks quite bulky and im pretty sure it will look better in the future with an even larger screen but slimmer and more flexible as mentioned.

Battery life. Suspect they are still testing that. The only hint i got was when he said.. when it's charging overnight... so a day...?

Water resistance - Jony did mention that it was sealed when they showed the induction charging. So my guess is... somewhat.

I may be completely wrong, but I don't see the watch as something that Apple is going to update every year like the iPhone or iPad. I think we're probably looking at longer cycles.

Just a (unsubstantiated) hunch.

It seems more Marc Newson than Dieter Rams.

A bigger iPod is innovation!

When the iPad came out, everyone was bitchin and saying it was a larger iPod, including me! I hated the iPad from the bottom of my heart. But when I touched it at best buy, I was literally blown away!

You can not rate a product until you see it person.

I fully disagree that it is terrible and hideous. I think it looks great and it is just the beginning. App designers and apple will work together now to create even more ways to incorporate usage. I'm excited to get one.

This is literally the worst thing I could have imagined. it looks bulbous and ugly, it is overpriced and it only works with an iPhone. On top of that it does Nothing differently or better than all these other smartwatches.

Oh - and did I mention that it will only ship next year? Oh on top of that they were too ashamed to tell people about the battery life.

I really, really, really wanted the Apple Watch to be something special. But this... just isnt it.

I feel really worried about Apple now.

Don't worry about Apple. Think ahead. This is a new product line. None of us have seen or held the actual watch. You may like it once you do.

No worries. I guess they will release an Apple Watch 2 next year (okay, 2016...) which is much thinner with worse battery life...:D

Honestly, I was really expecting it to be on sensors but it just has a heartbeat sensor which isn't really that special. It'll make a lot of conclusions from just your heartbeat using accelerometer I guess.

Also I think it will change a lot till the release, there are a lot of unmentioned points at this point. Reactions will pave them a clearer way to go and it's still at engineering verification process. Also, congrats on Tim Cook for no leaks ever. That was a serious success.

In all fairness it didn't appeal to me that much as of yet and I don't plan an buying one yet. However thinking back to the first iPhone I can only imagine the way future iWatches will go. This is just the beginning.
No leaks because the Apple Watch isn't even in mass production.

Do you need to refresh your memory?

Seems like Apple has been losing its way with every product announcement in the last 15 years!

The one truly took off was the iPad 2. It fixed everything in the iPad 1, basically it's a 3 step leap forward from the first one.

I do think it looks pretty good too... but not radically different from other smart watches. This is primarily because the other smart watches on the market were pre-emptive (rushed to market) responses to rumors that Apple was designing a smart watch.

This is a first-gen product that hasn't really found itself yet, but it'll get there. The more important thing is that Apple is now in the fashion market.

My criticism is that the 18k version will be expensive, and a lot of money to pay for something that in the end will be a disposable gadget (you're not gonna hand this thing down to your kid in 20 years because it's going to be useless by then).

But for $349 it seems to be a highly intelligent fitness watch.

As a fashion item... I really don't think it is that pricey. Women buy Coach purses that cost that much... Or a nice pair of shoes. You probably aren't going to wear the same pricey shoes everyday but you could certainly get a lot of use out of the watch. Do I wish it cost less? Sure... $299 would be great but I won't give up on it for $50.

Apple hasn't lost its way, they're simply spending a small fraction of their massive resources to see if public acceptance will embrace a watch they've built.

Time will tell.

This is true. You can tell they're saving some low-hanging fruit for further iterations.

I agree with comparisons to the iPad. People, myself included were massively disappointed with the first generation. But the product has come into its own, even if it has seen a bit of a lull since the release of iOS 7.

When apple launched the iPhone, it didn't do much. It turned into the greatest device ever. They launched the iPad, and it wasn't much more than a scaled up iPhone, and it required a computer to set it up. It is now the best tablet on the market. Now they launch the watch. It has a lot of features, and a cool design, but it is still their first watch. Just wait. :apple:

I think Tim Cook said its east to charge "at night", so I think he's implying that it only gets a day's charge?

I don't know how many years its been since I changed the battery in my Seiko. The Apple Watch has some cool features but they seem like novelties - sending a heartbeat? I don't want to charge another gadget, nor do I want to pack another charger the next time I go away for a few days.

Then a smartwatch is not for you. Why are you in this thread? You want a smartwatch you never have to charge? You're dreaming.
