During today's media event, Apple announced that OS X Yosemite, the next version of its Macintosh operating system, will launch today on the Mac App Store. OS X Yosemite will be available for free to all users with an eligible machine, and iOS 8.1 will also be available on Monday for Apple's mobile devices.

As detailed in our comprehensive OS X Yosemite roundup, the new operating system brings a new iOS 7-style design with an emphasis on translucency, smarter controls, and streamlined toolbars.

There are also several new features, including Continuity, which expands integration between iOS 8 and OS X, allowing users to accept phone calls on their Macs and seamlessly transition tasks from one device to another. Yosemite also includes iCloud Drive, plus new features and designs for several key apps like Mail, Messages, and Safari.

Day 1 here. Anything critical that doesn't work I can do on the retina mini :)

Got my new 40Mb/s fibre pipe here ready and waiting for moments just like this!

Yeah but this article is about Yosemite.

*Continues frantically refreshing the App Store*

I read the entire article, it also said iOS 8.1 is being released today. No big deal.

Can I update to the final version of Yosemite from the beta through the app store?

I hope so, because on one machine Yosemite Beta replaced Mavericks. However I hope it does a full install and not an incremental update as there are problems on the Beta like no recovery partition and dreadful internet connectivity.

I'm on the third GM candidate and it is very stable, I'm really quite pleased. Probably one of the best initial releases ever. Those in an enterprise environment best holding off though.

So, we don't have a time as to when it will be released? If not immediately after the event ends, when?

More importantly, Siracusa's review will be out later today!!! :)

For the impatient and the eager to read, it's been out on iBooks and Kindle all day :) Planning on starting the iBooks version on my retina mini once Yosemite is downloading.

I wonder what time it will come out? I might install it on my home machine, but will probably wait a month or two for my work machine.
