I bet that Apple will release a 4" model next year. Currently the 5s serves the purpose.

Here is my situation, and I bet a lot of people are in the same boat. I had a 5, and wanted to update. I did feel that I wanted a larger screen than the 5, but not sure about trade offs.

While I didn't think the 6+ would fit my lifestyle, I kept my mind open and tried it in the store. At home I made a cardboard cut out of both the 6 and 6+. After much consideration, I decided that the 6+ was not a device I would enjoy carrying and using for most of the things I want to do on a phone. Sure, the screen is big, but not enough to replace my iPad. Even though I never thought about it, I use my phone one handed more than half the time. I couldn't with the 6+. I can't sit down with the 6+ in my pocket which is too much of a hassle.

On the other hand, the 6 screen is a significant update from the 5 in term of size. Articles and books pages fit lot better , and I can read with one hand.

I do however feel that the 6 is a bit unwieldy compared to the 5, but the trade off is worth it for me.

But I am sure there are millions out there who would prefer a 6 in a 4" screen. I don't see why Apple would not make them next year. Would it be the 6 Mini or 6-?

Compared to the 5s, is the 6 (not 6+) screen better than the 5S in terms of contrast and color saturation?

Will have to see, but i am not sure the market will support the 4" screen. Most users tend to be happy with the 4.7" being the smallest iPhone.

i am actually hoping they will come up with a 5" screen as to me that is the sweet spot. in between the 6 and 6+. had the 5S and when i compared it to my daughter's 6, can't imagine how i was able to survived with a 4" screen. i myself wouldn't want a 4" screen size.

Understandable. But that is you. Not everyone wants a 5" phone.

I also hope they go back to a smaller phone at some point. I bought the 6 thinking I'd get used to it (that's what everyone says), but it's only gotten worse. I wish I'd returned it in the first two weeks.

4.7" is still too big for me.

I guess you better hold on to your 5s till it dies then

I was hoping they would come out with a 5 incher too, i think galaxy s5 is the perfect size

I can assure you Apple will continue to offer a 4" screen phone. There are just too many people that still prefer the smaller form factor and are not wanting a "jumbo" screen like all of the new generation phones offered by all of the companies. The demand will always be there and Apple will not sacrifice those sales.

Not sure about the 5s, but with the 5 I think it is. But I didn't have a complaint about the 5 screen, so those factors were not a selling point for me.

One thing that may help with the 6 handling is putting a good case on it, like the Apple leather case. While a case increases the overall size, it also adds a bit of traction, making the phone less slippery. When I first got my iPad Air I found it hard to handle and putting a leather case on it made a huge difference.

For me the extra screen space make a huge difference in usability. I really enjoy reading on the 6 now. I didn't think that bit of extra space would help that much, but it did.

I would have no idea how to go about making that assessment. What make you think so?

Apple smallest size is 4.7" this time around, and they sell extremely well. But what if they had created a 4.3" or 4.5" iPhone 6? What would the sales figure be? Would more people choose them over the 4.7"?

You'll get used to the screen size you just need to give it a bit more time. I do agree they should do an iPhone mini on the s cycle. Since the 6 isn't vastly different to the 5s there's no point having one now as the 5s is good enough for people.

Not everyone does, I've been using a 4.3" android for a few months since I needed a new phone, the 6 was rumoured to be giant, and it was the smallest reasonably specced android I could find. I still feel it is a bit on the big side, and definitely couldn't go any bigger than that without feeling that it was a replacement for a tablet.

I wouldn't mind being able to go back to iOS, but I'll hope that there is a smaller iPhone with the 6S. Otherwise I'll have to decide if I can handle using a tablet as my phone.

I'd be curious to compare 5S sales after the release of the 6 to how older models fared after new hardware was released. I'm guessing the 5S is doing quite a bit better since lots of people with older iPhones have decided that now is the time to upgrade since they may not be able to get another small screened iPhone anytime soon.

I tried out the 6 Plus and its too big. I also held the 6 and its also too big. I love the size of my iPhone 5. Is anyone hoping that the iPhone 5s gets updated to have the 6 internals with the S version. I really hope it does. I really loved that form factor. Its a shame they didn't update the 5S with 6/6+ internals.
I agree. I would have bought a 6 if it was the size of the 5S or only a little bit bigger (say, 4.4"). I was super-excited to get one, but then I used it in the store and the lack of comfortable one-handed use killed it for me.

You'll get used to the screen size you just need to give it a bit more time.
Unfortunately time will not cause my thumb to get longer. The regular 6 is still too big for comfortable one-handed use when doing something other than standing or sitting in a stable environment.

And no, I don't have small hands, I'm a glove size men's 10/Large.

I was just at the T-Mobile store and I played with the 6 plus. Definitely feels like an iPad mini. I just bought the new iPad Air 2. It's just way too big to be used as a phone. I love my iPhone 5S experience at the gym. Its perfect for running and doing everything.
Agree. I borrowed a 6 for a gym trial run from a friend who was fervently trying to convince me to buy one. It's just BARELY small enough to be used one-handed when standing still. When running? It's a joke compared to using a 5S or an iPod Touch.

Do I want my music on something that is a pain in the ass to use when exercising?

Answer: No, I do not. No sale.

Well, doing that would get a sale from me.

yes, understandable too but not any company will ever go back to 4" screen. not even apple i guess. i had iPhones 3, 4, 5 and 6+ and personally, just me again, wouldn't go back to a 4" screen. maybe in the old days it's ok as all you need to do is call and text. but technology now dictates a bigger screen. do you want to browse a web page on a 4" screen? do you want to read email on a 4" screen ? do you want to play games on a 4" screen? maybe some people do but again just me, i don't.

that's the main reason why there's an iPod........ also they are still selling the 4S and 5S so there's still something for people not to fret about how big the 6 or 6+ are.

Sounds like you use the iPhone as a small computer, not a mobile one. For people who want a mobile computer, the 6 is just too big.

A 6C or 5SC update in the 5C chassis next year is very probable, and inexpensive and small risk for Apple.

I have no problem with big phones selling. I just want the option to have the latest processor in the phone size I've been comfortable with for so long.

Well you're in the minority and you'll have to get over it. Apple is not going backwards.

That's also why Apple still sells the iPod Nano and Shuffle. If you're trying to use your phone for EVERYTHING that's on you.

Based on the fact that the new iPhone 6 was so easily accepted. There really isn't a huge out cry about the current model size being 4.7. Just like the 3.5" phone will soon disappear, I could see the 4.0" having the same fate.

There really isn't any reason for Apple to retool for a smaller phone when you look at the sales numbers for the iPhone 6.

You won't see any flagship phones smaller than iPhone 6, just get used to it. What Apple should do is make phone size smaller, not screen size. I am happy to see iPhone 7 with bigger screen but similar size in hand

I've had the 6 just two weeks. I still think it's too big. When I pick my 5 up I still think it's perfect.

But I realise two weeks is hardly enough time to get used to it.

That said. I don't intend to upgrade until the 7 is released. If they have an updated version of the 4" iPhone I think after two years with a 4.7" phone I may find 4" too small.

But I won't rule it out until I've seen if, if they do indeed update the 4" range.

That's funny. I have the opposite reaction when I pick up my 5. It just seems so tiny now.

I don't think the people who posts on this forum represent the demographic of iPhone buyers.

Why there is no denying that the 4.7" screen is better at displaying most information than a 4" screen, not everyone thinks it's a good trade off. I do for myself.

The same thing happens with new technologies all over again: SUV's, huge laptops. People push the envelops until the newness wear out then they become reasonable again. But there are those who has been through these changes in the past and be able to see things for what they are.

I bet the same thing happen to cavemen:
"I need some rocks."
"Check out these bigger ones. All the cool kids have them"
"Too big. I don't know if I can carry these all day"
"You will get used to them in a month."

That's funny. I have the opposite reaction when I pick up my 5. It just seems so tiny now.

What's funny about it? We all have different opinions.

For me the 6 is awkward to use and the pro of extra screen size doesn't (for me anyway) outweigh the con of how awkward I find it to use.

Can anyone see this happening:

Next year, Apple released the 6S and 6S+. The 5S becomes the free model. the 6 Mini takes the $100 spot. The 6 mini, like the 5C, is a "new phone" with old specs. It has either the same or modified body of the 5S, but with all or most of 6's specs. The A8, M8, cameras, and NFC chip could all be included. The 6S and 6S+ obviously are the flagship models, and the 6 and 6+ are discontinued, kinda like the 5.

There might be problems with getting the 6's specs into a 5S, but I'm sure Apple could work it out. I think this may be probable because I can't really see apple selling a 5S, 6, 6+, 6S, and 6S+ all at the same time. But who knows, we'll find out soon enough.

NO, NO, NO.... Sorry but small screens are yesterday's news. The iPhone 5s is WAY too small. I got so tired of taking photos using that small screen and then trying to process those photos on that tiny screen was even worse. Not to mention web browsing was a challenge as well. I don't know why you folks are so resistant to change. I have the 6 plus and it is great! You say that the 6 is too big? .7" is too big??? Wow! It's noticeable but not dramatic. There are people who still use the 3Gs... That phone has got to be SUPER slow with today's current technology. And it only has a 3.5mp camera. LAME! It was good for its time, but I wouldn't still be using one! Just get the 6, you will adjust to it quickly!

It is a big enough difference to make you switch from one handed use to two handed use, and that dramatically changes how you use your phone. You're welcome to have your opinion on screen sizes, but that doesn't change the fact that plenty of people disagree with you and want to be able to use their phones with one hand.
