Isn't that how it's supposed to work? I like that it reloads the page, no need to refresh.
Safari 6 is really annoying for reloading pages on "back". This is the "bug" the OP was talking about I think.
I'd have said not in my opinion - it shouldn't reload the page. Every time I hit back I have to wait a few seconds (longer on some heavy web pages) for the page to reload, it should cache the page like other browsers do for a faster (instant!) "back" experience - really irritating on forums, I end up clicking on the page on a new thread, but as it is the middle of reloading it means my click registers somewhere else on the page half the time.
Maybe it works great for you guys with uber fast internet, but on 3/4 Mb it feels like a bug - a web search finds hundreds of complaints about it.
I was really hoping they'd fix this in the new version (or at least have the option in prefs).
The fact that they've improved it a lot in Safari 7 (rare whiteout reloads) suggests that they do not consider this to be broken at all.
Sadly, there's no way around this beside using a different browser.
Yes there is... use the three finger swipe instead. No reloads.

... Safari insists on refreshing the page once it finally gets back. The only solution to this I've found is to disable 3rd party extensions entirely, but I can't do without my AdBlock. ...
On ML, I tried every possible combinations of the suggestions but I still got reloads, for example on macrumors forum. Now I am on DP7 and it doesn't reload anymore, instead it just reloads from ram. ...
... swipe back using the trackpad the damn Safari will reload. sometimes will but sometimes won't like when turned back within couples of sec. I've googled the problem someone said caused by adblock extension. I did install it but removed already and still suffering. ...

... post made me realize it might be Adblock causing this problem. And the reason I say this is because I have both Adblock and Adblock Plus, and Iʻve been testing them both on Safari (not at the same time, itʻs always one or the other). Both are comparable in terms of performance. Anyway, reading your post, it dawned on me that I wasnʻt seeing the page reload issue in Youtube when watching videos with Adblock Plus installed. However, when I switched to Adblock, itʻd reload the same page twice before allowing the "swipe gesture" to take me back to the previous page.
... Iʻm not seeing the issue reoccur while using Adblock Plus in Safari.
Thanks for the tips of AdBlock Plus...
It's strange duo...
I got the problem with AdBlock and without it - Then I installed AdBlock Plus and it finally solved my problem - But AdBlock plus didn't block all ads on other sites like AdBlock did..
So i activated both AdBlock and the AdBlock plus, And NOW everything works like it should for me![]()
YouTube seems to have made some major changes to its page loading. I noticed this when I clicked on a video once, it showed a red progress bar at the top of the site and loaded the video dynamically rather than opening/loading a new page. This behaviour interferes with the back gesture on Safari and Chrome, as you never left the site you were on, but the browsers still record the dynamic loading as events you can go back to. The response is naturally confusing.
However, this new page loading doesnt come up all the time, only sometimes. So I presume it may have something to do with AdBlock indeed. Perhaps YouTube reverts to the old method if a particular script is blocked by AdBlock.
Safari regardless of the version ... pages reload whenever i swipe back or use the back button....
First make sure you don't have an extension like adblock running because that will refresh history.
Without starting my Mac to check, I doubt that per-tab web processes are part of the problem(s).If thats not causing your issue then try Debug, Check - Disable per tab web processes. That should give you behavior similar to that of the other browsers you mentioned.
Its hit or miss with me. If I were to back out of this thread I appreciate it showing that I've read it. Some webpages don't seem to cooperate with that very well though.
