Apple didn't even release that whack speaker for iPod without a press event. Apple doesn't release anything remotely important on a monday morning, without any fanfare, and only by updating the online store for the united states and not other countries. it just doesn't happen. The store is porbably just down for maintenance, or at the very most they're gonna release something on par with iPod socks.

Is it just me or is Mac a super lousy server platform?

Even my $5 a month webhost does not have any need for such "maintenance"

they aren't maintaining the server, more updating the store. this doesn't necessarily mean any new products, the updates may be on the back end, fixing bugs, improving service, adding new features etc...

most online shops have at least some downtime for updates, but apple does seem to have more than most.

That doesn't have anything specifically to do with "Mac" as a server platform anyway. More specifically, probably has something to do with WebObjects, which Apple still uses to power their online store.

Actually even the iPod socks got an announcement. Sometimes they release speed bumps and the like without fanfare though. You never know.

Most recently, the new MBP's were released this way (although a press release came out before the store came back up, letting people know about the new details, like the LED-backlit screens and the 8600M GT).

But was it on a monday instead of a tuesday? And was it just the US apple store that was being updated while other countries stores stayed opened?

No, a Tuesday. I agree this is most likely just maintenance (although makes me wonder what they might be preparing behind the scenes, with the second maintenance period in 2 weeks without anything publicly changing).

I was mainly just pointing out that Apple has even done more significant product updates without formal announcements, etc. (and conversely, they've done special events for items that some wouldn't deem as being worth it).

If and when the UK store goes off at the same time, then there will be something to get excited about.

Until then, don't get excited about aything guys. Get back to work :p LOL

if true.. wheres Santa Rosa! & 8 Series NVidia's!

They did the same thing whith the Mac pro.. They leaked or accidentally forgot to remove the page. Even when the Santa Rosa Macbook pros were oficially introduced all the information wasnt properly updated till hours later.....

Am i the only one who actually paid any attention to this screenie made by someone who posted on engadget?

Looks legit

Seems unlikely. First, Apple referring to changing the "body" of the iMac sounds kind of odd to me.

Outside of that; yeah, seems odd that the rest of the options would be for the older iMacs (not Santa Rosa stuff or new GPU's).

The link to the supposedly 'different body' iMacs is a fake......it uses the 1-800 my apple part from the US store yet has it priced in UK pounds....and it just doesnt look right! obviously someone with photoshop and way to much time on their hands.....

just my 2cents anyway!
