Apple Cinema Displays 60% off...update coming?

Those prices look like 60% off of their original prices at launch.

I check the refurb site all the time, just in case something interesting comes along. The displays have always been heavily discounted.
 
That said, I do hope we see new Cinema displays tomorrow. I'd like a modern 30 inch display for about $1,500 US. Given Dell's price as of late, Apple should be able to do that.

I'd also like to see a glass enclosed LED display, but I'm not counting on it. If that were the case, I'd buy a new Power Mac and display on my ADC discount...

I think Apple could do even better than that.

20" - $399
23"/or maybe soon 24" - $699
30" - $1299
 
well since their displays are sort of a secondary peripheral where as AppleTV, Portables and Wifi stuff are more consumer oriented i highly doubt theyll waste their efforts towards them as their a single device with just one purpose, Displaying visuals.

probably will be some sort of random announcement in the spring, similar the first batch of Octo-Cores
 
anyone know anything about possible display updates? will we have to wait until wwdc?

it's kinda strange that he didn't announce anything today. seems like it's going to take a while for updates then?

what do you think?

Nice try but wasted effort though. Put your talents to making "PWnD" posters or something.

When is WWDC? I'm really reluctant to get anything as Apple has a history of lowering prices of their ageing product line out of the blue.

You will not see ACD updates for quite some time.

Very, very Remote chance for late Spring at NAB but I don't foresee ACD updates until next fall or winter.
 
I'd think we will see an update sooner or later - NAB is a type of event they'd launch this kind of udpate. Does anyone know the history of updates to ACDs?
 
MW disappointment re: displays

No updated displays? I thought popping newer panel technology in (you know Apple, the panels that are in other shipping displays with fantastic specs) and dropping the price, perhaps adding a built-in camera, was the low hanging fruit that was getting a little past the point of being ripe. Perhaps it's not a MW announcement (apparently the Google map thingy qualifies as big news), but I'd have liked to seen it released even without comment.

Yes - it's posted under the "Buyers Guide" tab at the top of the page. Here's the info blurb there followed by links to rumor/news threads.

Recommendation: Don't Buy - Updates soon *
Notes * Price drops are the primary form of LCD updates from Apple. The 30" model last received an increase in specification in March 2006 while the 20" and 23" remains unchanged since August 2006.

The Buyer's Guide is total CRAP on this website.

It is devoid of two things 1) Knowledge of Industrial Design Costs versus product lifecycle and 2) Real Time Observations as to how one Product Line Upgrade affects everything else.

For instance: the Mac Pro was just significantly upgraded in terms of processor. Since apple kept the same case, this affects the MacBook Pro and ACD's cases. etc.

That is a GREAT Monitor, the HP LP 3065 -- I am staring into mine right now as I type.

I LOVE this monitor. Best ever. Bit crazy for print work, but we have two ACD's for that.

You will love this monitor.

I'm looking forward to it. I picked it up BNIB for less than a grand so I couldn't pass on it.
