well i just returned from spending a decent amount of time with the Gateway FHD2400 and I have to say that I am very impressed with it-I was not able to test DVD playback but I was able to test battlefield 2, text and pictures-note that this was all done on a gateway gaming machine with a 8800GT graphics-but overall it is a very good monitor and i am thinking that I may be buying one soon

they are still over priced...
these are the prices they should be

20" $220 USD
23" $350 USD
30" $1300 USD

but that would never happen...

They really aren't overpriced. They are more expensive than the monitors you see at best buy is that they use a better panel. This is geared more towards professionals who would need this and would be willing to pay more for it. That said, they could definitely use an upgrade (more inputs!!).

Amen, someone who gets it.

The ACD 23" is a very good monitor for the money. It is not overpriced: especially if you get it for the refurb price of $799. Many people do not realize how strong this panel is. It uses a solid S-IPS panel, many cheaper 24s use inferior panels.

There are basically no 20" panel with S-IPS except the ACD.

The 30" is a bit overpriced for sure, but Apple is taking these ACD's all the way to the bank.

For better and for worse, for us.

Overall the ACD's are strong for print work. They lack new connectivity features. Their gamut is basic, targeted towards print and therefore they pale in comparison to new high gamut monitors. But for sharpness, viewing angle, and for print accuracy they are top of their game.

I'd also like to see a glass enclosed LED display, but I'm not counting on it. If that were the case, I'd buy a new Power Mac and display on my ADC discount...
That'd kill off the pro-value of the display...design professionals use matte displays only for color reproduction. Would be a good option for a consumer-grade panel, though.

I think Apple could do even better than that.

20" - $399
23"/or maybe soon 24" - $699
30" - $1299

Yeah, 23" won't exist next time they update these displays (whenever that is). These are about the prices listed on MacofallTrades.com.

Very disappointed no new displays or even price reductions today.

Given the market and the relative usability of ACDs, I can understand why they'd spend awhile before upgrading these displays. Sure, it'd be easy to take any old LG/Samsung panel and slap a camera on it with an aluminum bezel, but if it takes them awhile to calibrate a true designer's panel, I'm all for it.
