I wonder what happens if you paid 300 in cash and 299 on amex? that's what I did...

Buyer's Protection Plan will only apply if you used the card for the entire cost of the item. All of their membership rewards work like that, including Traveler's Insurance. Say you're in Geneva, and decide to take a helicopter tour of the Alps. As you walk toward the helicopter, the tail rotor springs to life and lops off your arm. Unless you paid for the entire tour with your card, you're screwed. :)

Let me get this straight.....

You are getting it replaced for free.... yet you feel that holding out for iphone 2.0 might give you better luck?

FWIW, my other half drenched his iPhone and used the AMEX Purchase Protection. They had him mail his iPhone back in.

american express replaced my iphone!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

First of all i love my iphone!! Anywho, i have had my iphone since christmass...thanks mom...i mean santa..whatever. The point is the iphone was purchased with an american express blue card and the way the card works through the protection plan is if you buy something with the card and you break it lose it or if it gets stolen......within 90 days of purchase they will replace it. I broke mine on day 89 and amex is going to credit my account the ridiculous 250.00 to fix it but if the iphone couldn't be fixed they would credit my account for the full price of the iphone. hope this helps!! USE AMERICAN EXPRESS BLUE:D

WTB insurance for an iphone, like my fience does the engagement ring i bought her.... although i don't have one yet im scared of hurting mine to.. i have one pair of fairly tight legged jeans (no not stocking style) and wondr if the phone could:
a) get on the pocket
b) get out when i need it
c) would it buckle under the pressure (and just get those dent marks that old calculator screens got when you touched them)
d) answer / activate in my pocket..

What the hell did that thing hit on the way down?!!? Don't get me wrong, I am not doubting you. It just looks like an incredibly freak hit to make the screen shatter like that. It looks like it was compressed at the point of the origin of the shatter.

Looks like someone too a hammer and hit that area on the glass.
Note damage to the metal is not consistent with a dropped iPhone.

Aren't you locked into a 2 year contract... that alone would put you at least $1440 into debt. It would be nice to be using a brand new phone (paid for AmEx no less) while paying that monthly $60. Very interesting decision to wait for v2 or v3. Not the one I would make.

No, the opportunity cost is different.

Compared to a regular plan $40 vs $60, yes it might seem more expensive, but it comes with unlimited internet usage.

If you ACTUALLY compare to a similar plan, it can be $20 LESS on the iPhone plan per month (compared to $20-$40 extra on top of $40 plans for other service providers with non-iphones), the iPhone actually may result in over $500 in SAVINGS with tax over the term of the contract.

However, a fall from a height of 7' and hitting a crossbar, step or other form of support would....quit being so nit picky and use your head when analyzing damage.

Try it with any other phone and it'll be damaged in a similar manner. It's abnormal circumstances.

Just pointing out the impact/ damage resistance of iPhone for normal uses.

when i bought my iphone, i didnt even think to put it on my amex. i paid for it on my business visa. the cashier looked at the name on the card and asked, you dont by chance have an amex as well do you?
I'm like, um yeah, AND? she's like, i dont mean to intrude, but it would be better if you put it on you amex. right there i knew exactly what she was getting at! i totally forgot about it, and that was the exact reason i bought my xbox 360 on my amex. she returned it for me right there and re rung it on the amex.

was very nice of her, everyone with an amex needs to take advantage of it

I don't get it...

I don't understand why so many people think that he's saying that the phone's design is the reason he's contemplating waiting on v2!

He hasn't said a THING about the phone being the problem - he acknowledges fault in the accident and understands what costs are associated with what decision he's contemplating.

All he wants to know is whether or not the wait that he'd incur in order to hold out for v2 is going to be worth it or if he should just buy a new one and get it over with... No where did he say that he hopes that v2 would be tougher so he can continue to screw around with it by putting it up higher than he should, or using it as a hammer, or for target practice, or as a frisbee...

Personally, we'll never know when v2 comes out (albeit, it is soon now). I would just replace what you had and be happy with it. Technology will ALWAYS move forward - you can't chase down the latest/greatest every time unless you're ridiculously rich.

Have fun with it...

Hmm... interesting example. LOL - personal experience? Typing with one hand?? :)

I have a Amex card....I bought my iPhone 3GS last year with it, never had any problems. But I do plan on buying the iPhone 4th gen when it comes out next month.

My question is do I tell Amex I want it covered? Or its automatically covered when I purchase anything?? Also if I pay $200 for the iPhone, do the credit $200 I paid or the actual cost of the phone without contract??

It is covered automatically for the amount you paid for it.
