my wife had it done 3 years ago and she loves it. She did smell "burning chicken feathers" or burning hair smell. Fast recovery .I think you can't rub your eyes anymore (hard).

Had mine done about 4 years ago. Still have 20/20 so he did something right. Schedule for late in day so you can go to bed a little after to help healing. Have a nice bottle of red wine waiting at home. They'll give you a magic pill, after 10 minutes tell them it isn't working and you need another. Keep still during procedure. Go home with funny goggles, drink wine and water. Drink some more wine. It does hurt when magic pill(s!) wear off but hopefully you'll be ready for bed w. a buzz rolling so it won't be as bad. Don't scratch or touch your eyes no matter how much they itch/burn/water. Drink more wine. It is 100% worth it and a true miracle of modern medicine. Count yourself lucky you're a candidate because a good surgeon will turn away 30% due to various issues. Don't go cheap! Go to a clinic that has non-mobile gear and gets calibrated at least once if not more per day.:)

But I Have Heard That If You Have Lasik And They Remove Part Of Your Cornea And Your Eye Starts To Go Worse Again, They Cannot Do Lasik Surgery On You Again Until Like 40 Years Later -.-

Is This True?

And What Is Valium?

Please Stop Typing Like This.

Anyway Valium is a calming drug, i think, someone correct me if im wrong.

Nope! Almost true, but at the same time, very wrong.

They do remove part of your cornea, but the amount they cut away is extremely thin. Some people have very thin corneas, and as such aren't a candidate for LASIK at all, or maybe can only have it done a couple of times. Other people, however, have much thicker tissue, and could have LASIK done 20 times before they were on longer viable. In fact, when you have LASIK done, they will generally ask you to come back for a follow up appointment one year after your operation, at which time they will do another procedure if your vision has degraded too much.

Of course, the procedure isn't particularly pleasant for most people, and it's also expensive, so I doubt there are many people who would be inclined to do it very often...

I am interested in getting it done but have a few questions. I went to sams to get my eyes checked and bought some glasses and asked the lady about this and she said that one eye can see far and one can see close and you have to learn to readjust your eyes. Anyone hear of this? is she totally nuts? any and all help is greatly appreciated.

This is a really good thread. My girlfriend's thought about eye surgery before, and we've talked about it a few times. She's not sure if she wants to do it, but I'll show her this thread and maybe it'll help her with her decision. :)

LASIK is the best thing since Internet Pr0n.

Worth every freaking dime.

omg i really want to do lasik surgery but my mom keeps telling me to wait until techonology gets better and it is more safer

and my sister keeps telling me that i shouldn't like do lasik surgery right now at the age of 18 since if my eyewishgt is keep getting worse, then i will never EVER have to do lasik surgery EVER again

so that i should wait until my eyes are fully developed...

is this true?

LASIK has been out there for many years now.. but i think it is not safe yet. Still we're the first generation. we dont know what's gonna happen before they die..

I had LASIK done on both eyes in 1997. Still perfect vision today. I wouldn't hesitate to get it done as long as you have an experienced surgeon. Quick and painless.

If one is vain enough to risk ones eyesight...the money would be better spent on a shrink.

The type of people you want to know don't see the specs they see you. Remember if you have worn specs for any length of time you will look as if you are spaced out on every substance known to Amy Winehouse in the same way that people sporting contacts look like they just witnessed a mass shooting. Its is like a syrup, people kid themselves no one notices, but everyone you meet is dying to ask you if you want a saucer of milk for your cat:)

getting Lasik (PRK) today at 3:30  Nervous as heck. I'll let everyone know how it goes. I'll be saving a ton of money by not having to buy contacts and glasses over the course of my life :)

Good luck.

Personally, at this point in my life, I would rather wear glasses than have the LASIK surgery done. Some friends have had it. Most report good results. However a few have vision that gets worse.

I am sure that the procedure will get better over time. Maybe I will consider it then.

Yeah, went to a Skate party last night and it reaffirmed why I'm getting LASIK (glasses fell off twice, and once almost got trampled). I hope it doesn't get worse for me. Then again my eyes are pretty brutal as is. I can't do anything without glasses.

Everytime I hear about Lasik I have to chime in and give my praise...

Before.....
glassesdn4.jpg

Now im literaly better then 20/20, I was a -12.5 and a -10.XX myopia and was blind practicly, now I can see everything......

I wasnt able to get lasic because I had a thin cornea, but I was eligible for PRK which is in a sense the same thing only instead of cuting the cornea they burn it off and it heals itself. Not going to say the healing process was painfree but a week after the surgury I was so amazed and still cant remember wearing those bottlecaps...

Its now over a year and a half later and I've been seeing 20/20 since and no more stumbling with glasses or contacts...

I have thin corneas too! ::hi five:: Did they do both of your eyes at the same time? I'm about -6.25 and -6.75 in each eye.

I think current vision is the most important consideration.

If you need glasses to read or not all of the time, then it is probably not worth the risk.

If you have coke bottle glasses, like the example above then it is well worth the risk.
