PRK went smashing. Still drugged up and eyes are all scratchy, but I can already seeing way better. Bright lights still sting and I won't get the 'bandage' contacts out until Thursday. Overall i'd say it was a success :)

Scared ******** though. My gf said my hands trembled through the whole procedure.

It will get worse before it gets better again, but dont be worried. I had PRK too.

You should ask about PRK - similar idea to lasik, but longer recovery and slightly more painful. It has been used to correct astigmatism.

That's a good suggestion. There are alternative procedures other than LASIK, which traditionally has been the most popular due to its high success rate. However, advances have developed better procedures which may be better suited for u. You should speak with your surgeon on which is best for you, cost wise, recovery wise, post surgery consultation etc.

Another alternative I can think of is Wavefront.

All 3 procedures have different healing times as well as implications. For eg, if you have done LASIK, you can't do activities which impose pressure on the cornea, such as free fall parachuting, scuba diving, to name a few. It is also more susceptible to injury, say, if you get a knock on your head.

I had LASIK done for me 8 years back. For the 1st 5 years, I had perfect vision, but recently in the past 3 years minor symptoms have started to occur, such as halo vision. At night, when I look into street lamps, there seems to be an "aura" surrounding it - thats the halo effect.

What I understand from my surgeon is that some people have "thicker" corneas that make them unsuitable for LASIK. Just something that I think you should be aware of.

This is one of the reasons that I love MR - for, in addition to intelligent and informed comment on the tech and Mac world, (plus good political debates) there are excellent and very informative threads such as this one.

I have pretty poor eyesight as I wear glasses (actually, I need them for absolutely everything except reading), and I have worn them since I was a very small child. Actually, I'm one of those who fumbles for my glasses first thing in the morning before reaching out for my bedside glass of water....and my eyes differ in vision, for my left eye is very visually challenged indeed.

Friends and colleagues (and one boss) have floated the idea of Lasik surgery to me for years, but I have always found the very thought profoundly off-putting. However, I welcome this thread and thank those who posted; very interesting, informative, thought-provoking and, almost, almost, reassuring.

Cheers

I have bad vision too. And was told by a doctor that my left cornea is becoming less round and that LASIK is pretty much out of the question.

Hey look, I posted in this thread before. Eyes still doing great. :D But yeah for a week I couldn't exactly see. Still see halos at night but way better than what I was seeing. I'll take halos over glasses any day. Oh and one of the previous posters was right about the rubbing of the eyes, sometimes I forget and if feels like I was punched right in the retina. But still better than what I was seeing before.
