You should ask about PRK - similar idea to lasik, but longer recovery and slightly more painful. It has been used to correct astigmatism.
That's a good suggestion. There are alternative procedures other than LASIK, which traditionally has been the most popular due to its high success rate. However, advances have developed better procedures which may be better suited for u. You should speak with your surgeon on which is best for you, cost wise, recovery wise, post surgery consultation etc.
Another alternative I can think of is Wavefront.
All 3 procedures have different healing times as well as implications. For eg, if you have done LASIK, you can't do activities which impose pressure on the cornea, such as free fall parachuting, scuba diving, to name a few. It is also more susceptible to injury, say, if you get a knock on your head.
I had LASIK done for me 8 years back. For the 1st 5 years, I had perfect vision, but recently in the past 3 years minor symptoms have started to occur, such as halo vision. At night, when I look into street lamps, there seems to be an "aura" surrounding it - thats the halo effect.
What I understand from my surgeon is that some people have "thicker" corneas that make them unsuitable for LASIK. Just something that I think you should be aware of.
