It's not going to make much of a difference unless you're a heavy gamer or picky with these sorts of things. It's a reliable display ...

Hmm.. I may sort of be worried now.

For the immediate future, the 2408WFP would be used with the 1.83ghz C2D Mac Mini I'm planning on picking up on Monday from Craigslist. This is going to be our secondary computer for the house who's main purpose is going to be use on the go, serving a Samsung Samsung SCX-4521f printer, etc. Wouldn't really be used much since all of us have our primary laptops.

I'm planning on keeping this in our den on the main level and lately, my brother's always in there playing some game - I think Counter Strike - off his MacBook which is the latest one... the 2.4ghz w/ the backlight, he bought it in late October. He plays in there as opposed to his room upstairs because he needs the desk and stuff.

So I was recently thinking I could get a little more mileage out of this Mac Mini if I told my brother to just go ahead and use this Mac Mini for his Counter Strike, booting up in XP or Vista or whatever whenever he wanted to play and then resetting back to Leopard whenever he was done. But apparently if this monitor isn't the best for gamers, then perhaps I should look into something else? Apparently he's particular about his monitors - I remember when he got his new PC that came with an LCD, he gave me the LCD and kept using an old CRT. We had a fire at our old house a few months ago and both his monitor and computer were gone, but I think we have another old Dell 17" CRT monitor somewhere.. but I'm not sure how easy that is to hook up with a newer computer.

...Once you get it calibrated, it's a pretty damn fine screen for the money.

Stay away unless you can afford calibration software. I had a nightmare of a time trying to calibrate it to look even remotely close to print colors. Ended up just sending it back because it came with cartoon-like colors out of the box.

If you can afford those calibration tools ($100+) that work, you can risk it. The fonts aren't 100% crisp and it's a pain to deal with.

Personally, the ACD 23" had better colors out of the box and was easier to calibrate even for it's price premium. Plus it has a better paneling.

What are the methods for calibration? I've never done that before w/ a monitor.

Is this something I should do with our laptops too? (15" 2.2ghz MBP, my wife's 15" 2.16ghz MBP, brother's 2.4ghz MB).

Still looking for some more details on the calibration. I was ready to buy a refurbished 2408WFP monitor today but it seems it's sold out at the dell outlet.

Hmm I'm in the same situation.

I'm looking for a monitor for work (typing up stuff, photoshop, video editing), and have about $350 (£270). Not enough for a 24'' but enough for a good 20- 22''.

What would you recommend? It isn't for games!

The Dell 2209WA. It been praised for being one of the best affordable 22 inch monitors and uses an IPS panel instead of a TN panel. Its around 299 as well.
