i ordered from crucial, but it is not in production yet and will not ship out until Feb 13 at the earliest

OWC has it for 367.99 USD as of today.
if you order it will it ship out by tomorrow - that was my problem, it was listed as in stock and i bought it, but it is still in processing stage. I called them and had them expedite the order, and today I found out that they couldnt ship it until Feb 13 due to production.

If Final Cut Studio and all Adobe products was 64bit then this makes sense.
All my MacPros at work have 16GB and their no faster than one with 4GB of RAM :(

I have 16GB of memory in my Mac Pro and it is definitely faster than 4GB. I don't think I'd notice much difference between 8 & 16 since I tend to run between 3 and 9GB. 8GB's seems to be the magic number.

One thing to think about--time spent waiting for a computer is wasted. Fast computers keep your brain stimulated.

Ok, so I found someone with a Santa Rosa MBP 15in id 3,1 and stuck the 4gb chip in and it was still showing up as 2gb. What are you guys doing to get your mbps to show 6gb?

try this...

Why don't you change the placement? It works for some posted here. Place the 2GB on the bottom and the 4GB on the top.

ive read the Whole thread! Maybe i overlooked it, but, can someone tell me if my 2.16 MBP be available for more than the maximum of 3Gb

If memory serves you can put in 2x2 GB modules but your computer will only be able to use 3.3 GB instead of 4.

I have changed the placement on all my macs (tried in both slots and as an individual chip). The chip I purchased was the Corsair 4GB PC2 5300 DDR2 667) (it had the larger samsung chips) I ran AHT and it was listed as a 4GB stick of ram but still would not show up in system profiler has a 4GB chip when booting. I have tried this chip on a late 08 17in Penryn and a 15in Santa Rosa.

Come on guys, there has to be something that I am totally missing.

There's nothing missing from what I understand. We all just used 1 stick of 4GB ram along with another stick of 2GB ram and it worked. There was no magic tricks that I've done to make it work.

what brand ram and what were the specs, what is your model id and which mbp do you own with which processor and size?

Just got in my RAM for my 15'' Unibody - Crucial 1066 4MB DDR3 PC3 5300 and it shows up fine as a total of 6GB. Wanna talk about fast and smooth. One heck of a difference.

Would it be a worthy upgrade to go from 4gb to 6gb. I would love the upgrade, but i dont know if it is really worth it at this point for me, i do a lot of graphic design and dual booting, but i dont have a huge problem with performance. I have a intel x25-m installed in my pro though, so that my be why it is working as smoothly as it does. IDK

Wow! so can all new unibody 15 MBP upgrade beyond 4gb?

Anyone else confirm???? I'm VERY interested as I plan on keeping my macbook for at least 4 years and 6 GB of RAM would be great for future proofing.

Note that i am concerned with the macbook, not the pro.

Does anyone have any more info on this??
