well I have been waiting--waiting:confused: If we do not get some time of release for a iMac or a MacPro-lite next Tuesday with some descent price point specs I will order 3 clones for about the price of a MacPro. I am a Apple fan but this is getting riddiculous.

These are exactly my thoughts, I know what I want and need and will not let Apple push me into buying a product I'm not convinced of.
If a clone comes up with what I need, then I'll think twice :(

Every time I go to the Dell web site I find something new :) this popped up just today the new Vostro Mini tower. I don't need it since my conversion back to Windows I have purchased the XPS Quad boxes but never the less the title says it all. "You ask we delivered"

Is Apple really giving you what you want?

No, not at all... I don't use Apple monitors, since I can get the same quality panels (except the 24" LED) for less.

Well i certainly didn't ask for that.

Apple Slows Down Mac Upgrades, in Sync With Economy

Apple isn't going to roll out a revamped Mac desktop anytime soon, because you wouldn't buy one anyway, analysts say.

Tough economic times, a shrinking desktop market and strong notebook sales make the idea of a sexy, aluminum Mac Mini an unwise investment for Apple, said Trip Chowdhry, a Global Equities Research analyst.

"In this environment where nobody is buying anything and you come out with a kick-ass product, you might get a lot of wows and woos, but that does not convert into sales," Chowdhry said. "So that's a wasted effort."

Apple's Mac desktop line is conspicuously overdue for a refresh. Typically, these computers receive at least an incremental upgrade (i.e., minor improvements to processor, memory, storage) every seven months. However, both the Mac Mini and Mac Pro haven't received an update in well over a year, and the current iMac is 10 months old.

Uh huh. Better to just crawl into a hole and hope the bad times pass you by. Great plan!

Steve Jobs himself said you have to innovate your way through a downturn. Pulling the plug on new products (which are already designed and approved, I'm sure) during tough times is an idiot's strategy.

Which, I suppose, is why Chowdhry is an analyst and not the CEO of a major technology company.

Its not going to happen any time soon face it! Steve is off dying, the economy is in the tank and like they said who would buy it any way. I am not an analyst and I said back to school time last year it only makes sense.

This article is just silly.

"Apple's MacBook sales are skyrocketing, growing 71 percent in the first quarter of 2009 compared to a year ago," and yet, according to this analyst, "In this environment ... nobody is buying anything "!

"Meanwhile, the company's desktop sales declined 25 percent year-over-year," and "iMac sales went to hell in December." Yeah, that's because everyone is waiting for new models!

So their advice to Apple is not to release anything now, while presumably customers trickle off to the Windows world, which offers more up-to-date-systems. Ridiculous.

Its not their advice! its clear that it is what is happening right now! you guys are in such a deep state of denial.

It is their advice.

Apple is likely waiting for a better time to roll out a makeover for this long-neglected device, as well as for the iMac line. And that makes sense, because form-factor upgrades draw in the most sales, Wolf said.

With all that said, Chowdhry estimates that 2010 would be a more reasonable year for Apple to release any form-factor upgrades for its desktop line, including the Mac Mini.

And it's not clear at all that that's what is happening now.

Silly you say? and how is this article any different from the thousands of lies and rumors posted here every day regarding new products. Your right I should put more stock in the 13 year old posters that make there predictions here on MR how dare these guys make a prediction without consulting the Gods of MR

Don't know what got into me I have strayed and found information else where forgive me sire :)

Because it doesn't even make internal sense; they just contradict themselves. Laptop sales are "skyrocketing" yet "nobody is buying anything." "Form-factor upgrades draw in the most sales" yet Apple should wait until 2010 to make any form-factor upgrades. Like I said, ridiculous arguments.

Although you may not realise it yourself there are huge differences in an individuals predictions on a site created for the discussion of rumours and the "professional" opinion of a paid analyst.

I agree with you on the discussion thing, but some of these analysts really know nothing. A few months ago Shaw Wu said we would have new macs in the end of Jan.

You guys are right we should always take the advice of a pre pubescent teen who is posting from his moms basement over the professional analysts  who has years of experience researching data and trends of the market place.

It's Apple, everyone's guessing--including the analysts, sometimes they are right and other times they bomb spectacularly. In this case, the analyst does seem to be semi-contradictory where he's talking about laptop sales being up. If we are in a "down time" and no one is "buying" then why are laptop sales going up?

Pardon my illiteracy but what would be the noticeable performance difference?

400%, to notice any difference.

Not gonna happen these days, it's about 20% each update. Maybe better if you get a new GPU that apps can take advantage of (either now or with Grand Central in Snow Leopard).

Core 2 Duo was a huge step in performance over the PowerPCs (and Pentiums), but it's only been incremental improvements since then.

MacBook Pros have good potential with their NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + 9600M GT configurations - but the best that claims is 160% - 240% frame rate increase for certain games. That does not mean, for example, MS Office will run that much faster (gods forbid you need to run that).

Wu's record is actually worse than anyone watching the rumour sites. His "predictions" are usually a month behind the rumours sites or based on information that would normally be rejected by rumours sites.

He is not tech savvy. There's a running list of his track record on MacRumors. Hopeless.

You can't use him as a Mac buyer's guide. And anyone who needs a consultant to tell them that Apple is the strongest performer in the tech market at the moment, wouldn't know if Wu was making it up as he goes along or not. We're still waiting for Wu's Apple Television that was to be launched at Macworld last month.
