    Hi

I purchased an iPhone 3G last September with a Pay and Go sim. However, recently, I have found I am spending quite a lot in terms of top ups and have decided it would be better to go for a Pay Monthly sim.

This includes Unlimited Web access. Would there be any complications if I were to go about doing this, or will it simply be a case of changing my network settings on the iPhone to recognise that it is using a contract sim?

    Thanks for your time.

I currently use a Simplicity sim with Unlimited Internet in my iPhone which I bought as a Pay As You Go, I have no problems whatsoever with it.

I had to make no changes at all, worked straight out the box with my sim.

Only things you would miss from taking an iPhone on contract are 1) Visual Voicemail and 2) Free Wifi with The Cloud and BT Openzone.

You wouldn't even have to do that. iPhones are boxed with the contract APN settings on them, and the same stock is used for pre-pay and post-pay. If you were on PAYG you would actually have to change the iPhone settings to PAYG. So with SIMplicity, you shouldn't have to change any settings.

Oh and its o2, not 02. Sorry - pet hate.

    According to O2, it's "O2" unless it's in a URL. Then it's o2.

Don't you just hate it when that happens? :D

I was highlighting it's not 0 (the number) 2, its O (the letter) 2. As in Oxygen. I put the 'o' lower case to empahsis this.

True, but if considering the substantial price difference between the two, I'd say it might be worth the 30 seconds of typing. :)

The phone will cost the same, if he goes PAYG or SIMplicity, as it's a PAYG he will need to buy. The only savings are dependent on his phone usage, and how much his monthly spend it.... To be honest, i'm not quite sure what your point is.

Jin666 asked if using a PAYG iPhone with a SIMplicity SIM would be as easy as changing the internet settings from PAYG to post-pay. I said that that wasn't the case, as all UK iPhones come with the contract settings set up. Even the PAYG ones. They are the same stock. You actually have to change the settings of an iPhone if bought on PAYG, as it won't be set-up with to start with. So Jin666 wouldn't need to change the settings, he would be fine just buying a PAYG iPhone and putting his SIMplicity SIM in.

The OP already has a PAYG iPhone...

It is just as simple as changing the network settings. I'm on Simplicity 20 too, and it works fine, just takes a few days to change over.

So just to be clear, when using a Simplicity sim, which APN setting should you use on the iPhone? mobile.o2.co.uk or payandgo.o2.co.uk? Or something else?

    Thanks!

    mobile.o2.co.uk

Do you have to type this in? I never had to, the phone got the settings (including username and password) from the sim. I have an unlocked 3G and use O2 Simplicity.
