Hello, I have a 2009 27" iMac Quad i5 with the ATi HD 4850 512MB with 16GB of RAM. It is still on Snow Leopard because the performance is awesome and everything runs good. Never went to Lion. Should i upgrade to Mountain Lion? I have it on my MacBook Pro and love it. Will my iMac take a performance hit?

    Thanks

I'm waiting for similar feedback. My iMac is a 24" early 2009 (Core 2 Duo, 2.66GHz, 4GB of RAM) and I am looking for feedback from users here regarding ML on older iMacs. I wonder if it will get slower than Lion which I'm using now or if it will be faster as many users say Lion is pretty slow.

    Thanks!

OP I have the a late 2009 iMac with 2.66 GHz i5 16 GB of ram and 512 Vram and I have Mountain Lion it is much faster then Lion was and i had notice a little lag going from Snow Leopard to Lion. but I'm loving OS 10.8

For example iTunes use to jump up and down 2 to 3 times before loading now it takes .81 secs to load

ML is lightning fast on my 2009 iMac, especially with the SSD.

Would it be worth it then from 10.6 to 10.8 on my iMac?

Clean install of ML yesterday on my early 09' 24" iMac (much lower specs than the OP's) and the machine is flying right now. IMO, definitely worth the update, even from Lion.

Definitely worth it. Have a 2009 iMac 20" C2D 4gb Ram and a 2011 27" i7 16gb Ram. Both updated to ML and both are running quicker. Lion was slow on my older mac, but ML has made it as quick as it used to be with SL. Enjoying ML so far with no problems with any of my previous programs.

[off topic] How exactly do you measure the load time to 0.01 sec?

I understand that your stop watch can show 100th of a sec, but how do YOU ensure that precision while pushing start and stop?

I can't but what i do is move the mouse over the iTunes button and then on a count of three i push both the mouse and the stopwatch button at the same time it is as close as i can get.
