'09 MacBook Pro 13" - Slow Lion Performance

I just did a clean install of Lion on my 2009 13" MacBook Pro (2.26GHz, 8GB RAM, 500GB HD), but the OS feels much slower than when I had SL installed on it. Is there anything I did wrong when installing the OS? I followed the various guides found online about creating a Lion boot disc and installed it from there. Is there anything I can do to improve my performance? Please help!

I installed Lion clean, and for the first few days it seemed slower, but now it feels much faster than my 1.5 year old SL build.
