If you ever head back to scenic Ithaca (I never will!), let me know. Some good restaurants and even one good radio station I could point you toward.

Crazy thing is I lived there for four years and never flew out of Ithaca -- only Elmira (with its two gates!) and Syracuse.

It's especially bad if you have to go around D.C. since it's such a mess. I've spent 3 hours just going from Baltimore to Richmond because of construction plus accidents. At least, you have Wawa iced tea available part of the way. :)

Yeah, normally we drive to Northern NJ, so we go up 81N into PA, and then take 78, or 80E into NJ. This time im visiting a friend at his shore house in Somers Point (about 15 min from Atlantic City) im not looking forward to DC, or I-95 for that matter. This is the route Mapquest wan'ts me to take, at least they seem to be going around DC, and getting on 95 closer to Baltimore.

Only went to The Rose one and was mighty sick afterward.

If you ever do get back, dupe people into going here.

Wow! That's a long drive. If that is your total door to door time, you averaged 72.4 miles per hour.

My longest drive alone was about 1100 miles in 17.5 hours from Alabama to Nebraska. Only stopped for gas/bathroom breaks.

Never again.

BTW, I only averaged 62.8 MPH on my trip but drove a lot of it at 90 plus speeds. You must have been really hauling butt to maintain an average over 70MPH. Yikes!

One thing for sure, as other posters have stated your reactions suffer worse than if you are driving drunk. Operating a vehicle while fatigued is very dangerous and not a smart thing.
Ya, I think actual time door to door was more like 31 hours, but those were back in the days when Nevada was pedal to the metal, so ~70 mph sounds right. But as you mention, "not smart". It's part of my "never again" story repertoire. I can still feel some of the adrenaline rush recalling the sound of that 18 wheeler blowing by and opening my eyes, wide.

When I lived around Philly, I used U.S. 1 a lot, especially to get to the Baltimore area. It doesn't save a lot of time north of Trenton where it gets bogged down in stoplights but the trip from Upper Darby (outside West Philly) down to Bel Air, MD is actually extremely pleasant compared to I-95.

Considering being stuck in traffic on I-95/I-495 for 3 hours again, maybe I'll use the Mapquest route you've shown. Funny that I use U.S. 17 down here but never even saw it up there.

By the way, why not just take the NJ Turnpike to North Jersey?

Its actually faster to go 81 to 78 or 80E. I just did from my House to Wilmington, DE which is close to where 95 turns into the NJ Tpk on MapQuest, and it would take 6.5 Hrs, then another 2.5 Hrs from Wilimigton to North NJ taking the Tpk, so that 9 Hrs. Going our route we make it in a little under 8 Hrs with stops.
