I've read a little bit about this, but most of what I read is either 2 years old or referring to Vista. So I was wondering...

    1. Should I be worried?
    2. Is there a solution?

Right now I have about 1.35 hours left and my battery is at 85%, that's about half of what I get when I'm on leopard.

Yep. You've just witnessed the difference in how OS X and Windows manage power.

    HIGH FIVE to windows aye.
I'm just glad I only use windows for work and half life, both of which I usually have a place to plug in.
    Thanks Tallest Skil

i unfortunately use win 50-75% on me macbook Air - and see batt life comparable to OSX - not sure why it would be that bad as what you describe.

due to habit, whatever, can run a 90 min ripped DVD on train ride in win xp, come home and still have decent power left for further non-plugged in lunacy

If i'm on leopard I usually have the following programs running
    adium
    cuteftp
    azureus (about half the time)
    firefox
    bluephoneelite
    quicksilver

    firefox
    msn mesenger OR yahoo messenger
    flashget
    avg free
    macdrive
and then a few small programs.. (awc, hot corners, nothing too big)

leopard = about 2 hours and 50 minutes with 100%
    windows = about 1 hour 20 minutes with 100%

    it's a shame

blame apple, apple's bootcamp driver does not allow windows to use step speed tech for CPU (lower speed when in spare). this is standard stuff for every windows brand laptop.

This was first discovered by users who realize mac laptop runs very hot when in windows, fan keeps running, then they found out CPU speed is always at full.

There is absolutely nothing about OSX save energy more on a laptop, why do you think windows is that stupid? LOL :D

At least in Windows Vista you don't need those drivers.

IDK, i never has windows on my MB, but i did some research last time somebody asks why mac run windows vista so "hot". and turned out apple is delivering crappy drivers for windows. probably, ATi's power saving tech aren't offered for windows neither.

This might be true for some models, but definitely not on my first gen MBP. If you download and install CPU-Z, you can clearly see the processor scale back when its sitting idle.

probably, GPU is part of story too, I just read an article mentioning Apple didn't offer ATi's power saving stuff for windows...:)

Im just saying, windows, OSX, linux, they are on par about energy saving, +/-10%, if OP has 50% loss, it can't be, as somebody said, because windows is just 200% worse than OSX in power saving.

    Just to chip in..

I just got off with a Dell rep. Dell laptops can run for up to 5 hours of light usage or 3 hours with heavier usage. I get 1/5 hours surfing the internet.

This is 100% Apple's fault, and not due to Windows at all. I think I'm going to ring apple up and see what they have to say..
