Let's say you're right and I'm not saying you're not. It could be that the iPad is using more data due to streaming in a higher resolution due to it's bigger size. I'm not sure about this so if i'm wrong be sure to point out but logically speaking, it makes sense that the iPhone may stream a 480P resolution video while the iPad may stream 720P. Since I do not own an iPhone, I'm not sure whether it is capable of streaming at 720P or not so once again, if my logic is wrong be sure to point out.

No the logic is all there. I'm figuring streaming on an app takes less data usage. I'm still annoyed that AT&T took away my unlimited...

If we all drove a Focus, 60 mph would seem like a reasonable speed to most everyone and enforcement could be minimal. Suddenly, more and more Vette's are hitting the highway and looking for open lanes to go 100 mph and over and we discover that enforcement is lucrative. Not only lucrative, but hey, let's lower the limit to 40 mph, then we can nail all those Focus drivers as well. Soon we will have highways full of Vette's going 40 mph.

I have held off on getting a smart phone, now I am not so sure if it will be worth while to have a phone that I can't afford to use it's capabilities because of ridiculous overage fees or limits on band width. How many commercials for smart phones don't highlight video streaming as a major feature. They don't mention that you can only get an hour or two a month without blowing up your plan.

Just my 2 cents.

Did you have it before? If so, aren't you grand-fathered in? For your phone, maybe....for your iPad, maybe not.

It doesn't bother me one bit...I got the wifi-only edition. I'd MUCH rather be limited by wifi WAP availability than having to constantly worry about bumping up against (or exceeding) the bandwidth usage threshold.

I also very rarely stream music/movies/multimedia on my phone (or iPad for that matter). I use it to receive mail and sometimes send. I use it to play a few games and to access Facebook. I use it for typical internet access...I just don't stream.

This isn't an AT&T issue...have you checked the other providers? They all have set similar limitations. Do I like such limitations? No. Does it affect my life/mood? No. Life's short...worry about something that's REALLY important. If you hate AT&T that much, cancel your contract and don't use them anymore. You've quite a few options...quit whining about it and do something.

It sounds like you just need to limit your streaming or just do it on your phone or home/work computers.

I just don't get why the data usage doesn't correspond between devices. I used to watched over 10 hours (at least) of streaming live sports on my iPhone a month and I never used over 1.6GB. That's why im surprised.

Check the quality you were watching video on on the iPad vs the iPhone. Maybe it was set for HD for that entire broadcast? That could easily take up that amount of data.

Any video will eat up your data plan.
