Now the seller wants to complete the sale through "eBay SafeHarbor Team".

This is after I told him that I was no longer interested in his PowerBook, "I regret to inform you that I am no longer interested in purchasing your laptop. I just do not feel very safe buying it outside of eBay..." Now he wants to continue this way.

The deal & the seller just keep getting fishier & fishier. :(
Here is a copy of the sellers most recent e-mail:

"Hello and thank you for your promt reply.I must let you know that we will close this transaction only trought eBay SafeHarbor Team and inside of it also, and like that bought will be secure , we will proceed trought ebay and i will arrange a delivery of the item to your home address( i will cover and pay all the shipping taxes - you will pay only the price of the item).
The deal will go strictly according to eBay's rules and policy regarding to this offer- to start the official transaction, I need to email me your shipping details like your full name and address where the item can be shipped.
As soon as I have them I'll start the official procedure and i will provide them to eBay so they can arrange all our transaction details(shipping and payment), and eBay SafeHarbor Team will notify you about this. You'll also receive important guidelines + instructions from them (please go through them exactly).
Like i told you before I'll handle the shipping, so this will be free of charge for you + I am willing to deduct you with the fee for handling the payment procedure.I will pay all the shipping taxes, so you will have to pay only for the price of the item. Also, a refund policy will be included. You will have 30 working days to ask for a refund if you will not be 100% satisfy of the item.Should you need a refund for this transaction, the insured amount will be taken from my purchase protection account and sent to you. The refund is sent to your bank account, or by check or money order. The way you are refunded is at your choice.Refund requests are processed within 3 days.
Looking forward to hear from you!"

Anyone care to comment on this recent turn of events?

anyone can doctor some reply from the ebay safe harbour team. Don't waste any time thinking about this, it's NOT worth it. He seems awfully pushy in order to get you to be a "sucker" in his scam. Who the heck wants to unload a powerbook at $2000 off, PLUS free shipping?

Thats kinda what I was thinking, I will just have to tell him (again) that I am no longer interested in his "second PowerBook".

I agree, he is a bit pushy, which is also not a good sign.

Darn scammers

Thanks, but I was looking for something a little bit cheaper. My powerhouse machine has already been purchased- now I just need something to bring with me to college. :)

Just noticed that the link to the fraudulent PowerBook deal in question has been blocked. In its place is a warning-

Invalid Item

"This listing (5819377013) has been removed by eBay or is no longer available. Please make sure that you've entered the item number correctly.
If the item was removed by eBay, please consider this transaction canceled. If anybody contacts you to complete the sale, please ignore the request. Completing the sale outside of eBay may be unsafe and will not be covered by eBay purchase protection programs."

I feel bad for the person that bought the laptop from this guy, or should I say forked over $1,100 for nothing. :(

I wouldn't assume anyone got scammed. Quite honestly, he's probably got several people lined up to try and scam them. If I had gotten an email like that, I'd have reported it to eBay immediately. I'm assuming that's what someone did.
