in my experience, good. excellent customer service - they have manned phone lines! cheapest packages don't support php/mysqli/html includes/other useful stuff, so just make sure you choose wisely!

Depends on what kind of hosting you need. I have had a bad experience with them. I used them for a clients site, during a time when they were doing something with the server. To make this a short story; the server was down for over 2 days with no warning or explanation when I called to find out info.

I switched to Real Web and have been using them for over 3 yrs now with out any problems. Basic service cost $8/month

They are cheap, but they do oversell their shared hosting plans. If you need anything that requires performance or slight server customization, avoid them.

I have never dealt with a helpful tech support agent, each one just passed me onto someone else who still had no idea what they are talking about.

I guess, in short, if you want cheap, and nothing too powerful their shared hosting plans are fine. If you need some performance, go with Slicehost. Personally, after dealing with 1and1 for 3+ years I would never choose them again. I would rather spend more and go somewhere else.

I'd say for the price 1and1 aren't too bad. The customer service is OK, you might get passed around a bit but i've always got hold of someone who can help me in the end.

If you're UK based i'd strongly recommend Vidahost, a little bit more expensive –*but great and very friendly support.
