Buying wife ipad for her birthday. If i buy her the apple care it's 99.00 plus tax 107.00 this would extend coverage one year. Is that very costly for one year?
I think i paid the same for my 27 imac quad core. If something is broken usually happens with in the first year. I don't see if second year going to be that critical. 3rd or 4th year maybe not sure which way to go!

Don't buy now. Wait a few months for them to pop up on eBay for peanuts. :D

You get 1 year with the purchase. AppleCare extends it for 2 years beyond that, plus gives you phone support the whole time (I think you only get 90 days of phone support with the purchase.)

Square trade is cheaper and carries accidentall, no phone support but you can as stated above get both but wait as they will pop up on ebay and elsewhere for less. I got both to cover all bases!

No it doesn't. AppleCare on the iPad is only for two years. Only on Macs is it 3 years. 2 years on iPhone/Touch/TV/iPad

    Edit:

No, you can buy it anytime within the first year, as with all Apple products.

Most credit card companies match warranties on items. My american express does it so basically its like getting free applecare.

I wonder how this will be classified in the UK consumer rights law. You are automatically allowed to expect repairs to a TV up to three years even if it comes with only a 1 year warranty as thats covered by the "fit for purpose" clause, under durability. 3 years is considered acceptable for a TV. I wonder what they would consider acceptable for an iPad?

Myself, i'd argue the same as TVs because it shares a lot of characteristics with a modern HDTV, namely screen and processors, lots of TVs now even have WiFi. However the 3G version they could argue is more phone. I dont know what the standards are on phones, but i cant see it being 3 years.

Actually, in the UK you can claim up to 6 years for consumer electronics, but the onus is on you to prove that the product has not treated in a way that would have caused the problem, which is rather difficult to do on a portable device. I'm almost certain that there is also a no questions 2 year warranty on all electronics sold in the EU.

Wow. I thought ST had deductible on accidential damage, but it looks like there isn't now. I might actually get one just for the accidental coverage although I'm sure I'll sell and get new one in less than 2 years.
