Houston (duh)
Am I nuts for wanting to do an exchange while still in the return window?

I made the 'mistake' of checking the battery with coconut battery and it's down to .... drum roll. 99.8% after just one week.
LOL.

Am I being ridiculous? Is the measurement accurate enough to warrant it? Or would this be considered within the margin of error so to speak?

All good. I think I was thrown that my new M2 Air shows exactly 100% and it's older by a few weeks.
Yeah, I've had coconutBattery since the days of my iPhone 6s+ and ... after observing battery usages for all those years on all my iPads/Macs/iPhones (including my wife's devices) - batteries age differently - some stay exactly the same % health for 2 years, some grow for a hundred cycles, others drop almost 10% after 2 years despite me treating them fairly consistently.

I always get AppleCare+. My wife and I have been able to take advantage of a few failing batteries this way.

My opinion - but it's luck of the draw on what you get from the factory that determines mostly how the battery ages (assuming your usage isn't abusive). :p

Likely all true. Thank you. I do get AppleCare for my devices, but that really only helps if it gets below 80% in quick fashion. Regardless, I suspected it's likely within the margin of error and "normal" but it just surprised me.
I work hard to keep my devices cool and within the normal range of operation, etc.

It would probably be good to not measure this too often for mental health reasons. LOL

Yet you cared enough to reply. I care less about my $ spent than you do about a stranger's life on the internet maybe?
My opinion but these 12.9 iPads are extremely expensive, more so than some MacBook Airs depending on storage size you get. Seems normal to me to wonder about your device making sure there is nothing wrong with it. There are no stupid questions. To ask is the first step to learn.

Now if the iPad was $200-$300 I might care a bit less about the battery, but I do like taking care of the things I use. :p.

These numbers are not accurate. My 16’ M1 Max MacBook Pro has a battery health of 101% after almost 1 year of use according to coconut battery.

Yeah right, this is impossible.

It’s variation in manufacture, but yes, slightly below normal. Usually the 1st 2-3 months, battery will stay > 100% with normal use.

Exactly. I’ve had some Apple devices 107% of design capacity. This is how they stay >100%. I also got an iPhone with 96% brand new out of box. Batteries are a chemistry. According to BatteryUniversity capacity can even grow the first 100 cycles or so. Most of my Apple batteries have been tanks but I’m a light user.
