I would like to get 4GB sticks to the 12-core, but the only options is to get either 24GB or 32GB and the price goes way way up then.

So why can´t I get for example 4 x 4GB = 16GB or 2 x 4GB = 8GB option?

What´s the thing with this mysterious 4GB stick?

Dont buy RAM from Apple. Look arround for the best deals. Mostly they advertise kits eg... 12GB kit (3x 4GB) But you can buy the sticks individually.

You have to install matching pairs on the dual CPU Macs so just look for 2 kits of 12/16 ect.. to get 24/32GB

look elsewhere...TransIntl, MaxUpgrades, OWC, or from stores like Superbiiz or Newegg, or direct from Crucial.
