I have 2 studio display but am considering selling them and purchasing a XDR display.
Thoughts?

Screen space is important but I find having 2 screens some what distracting to if that makes sense.
Currently use a 14" Macbook Pro open in the middle and the 2 ASDs above it.

Sounds like you've already sold yourself on the bigger display then. :)

Hard sell at the price but just reaching out to see if anyone had been in the same situation.

It is. You can make the pain less by getting a vesa arm and the vesa adapter (maybe even buy that used or off ebay or something). If you ahve to have a desk stand, there are vesa compatible ones for like $50 that should hold it ok. It just won't look as pretty as the $1000 stand lol.

Beyond that, hard to say. Not sure I'd pay like $3k for a 2-3 year old one.

I wouldn't be surprised if Apple releases an 8k XDR soon though. It looks like all their recent Macs have entered the 8k space, and it's been 4 years since the XDR was released.

Any rumors surrounding this?

That would have to be like 42" to stay at the normal retina pixel density. Or macOS finally becomes resolution independent. I'm sceptical.

I currently have multiple ASDs attached to my M1M Studio. I parted ways with an XDR to go with this set-up. While I like the ASDs a ton, I miss the XDR. It's a different level piece of equipment. It's a work of art. The HDR performance is outrageous. IMO the screen on the AS MPB is exceptional and better than the ASD. The XDR is that on steroids. If you can afford it and think a single display will work for you, I'd go XDR.

FWIW - I have a Dell 6K on order because I'm hoping it will scratch the itch a bit. I can't get myself to pull the trigger on the XDR right now because it so long in the tooth.

I always prefer using a single large display to multiple smaller displays. It’s simpler, more aesthetically pleasing, offers a better full screen experience (e.g. movies, games), and generally more ergonomic.

Plus, in this case it’s actually a larger and higher quality display. I have one ASD now, but if I ever were tempted to add a second, I’d just get a single XDR instead. Of course, once the Vision Pro is out, I’d be more likely to get that than anything else.

When do you guys think Apple will be updating/replacing this display?
