Really bad quality control at Apple that stuff breaks when updating.

Backup Backup Backup _ and likely always 'safer' to wait a few days once an Update appears, if you are not in a panic or unsure of its benefits.. or unable to troubleshoot a system..

Luckily it is seldom catastrophic, if you are prepared.. Good Luck out there!!
