2007 macbook pro will not show network.

I have ticked to box in finder preferences.
If I open my home shortcut on desktop then on the right in the finder window I can see the network computers and nas box at work.

But why not network on desktop?

It worked in my a1342 macbook running Sierra.

    Any ideas?

Googled and it keeps say turn on in preferences, which I have done.

Until you have connected to a server's volume, you will not see the network on the desktop; OS X has never done that. You can open the "Computer" window and drag an alias to your desktop if you would prefer to be able to view the Network on the desktop.
Once you've connected to a network device, then you'll see that on your desktop.

on my sierra unibody I had an icon which is the same as network in preferences.

The little ball with lines around it.

As you say now only the dives show up as you connect to them.

I dont recall making alias in my sierra but it was a while ago I set it up.

    I worked it out now.

had open Johns mabook pro then saw the network icon.

    Alt+CMD+click a drag to desktop.

Now have what I want :)

Just we have few nas boxes at work and a server full programs/files in a shared folder
